DETROIT -- A jury has been seated in the trial of outspoken lawyer Geoffrey Fieger on criminal campaign finance charges.
The 56-year-old Fieger and his 46-year-old law partner Ven Johnson are accused of making $127,000 in illegal contributions to Democrat John Edwards' 2004 presidential campaign. Fieger also is charged with obstruction of justice.
Both men have denied the charges.
The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report that a jury of 11 men and five women are expected to hear opening statements Thursday morning in federal court. Four alternates also were selected.
Fieger is best known for representing assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian.
