I’ve always surmised that the MSM’s reign of cultural terror really started with the 1960 election, when media leaders (mostly leftist to start with) saw that JFK had been elected largely by his TV image.

They realized the real extent of their power and exploited it for all it was worth. Generations of lefties have followed, solidifying 60s “new left” dogma as the default position for the professional media, but their day will soon be over.

JFK successfully adapted FDR's "voice of tyranny" to televised propaganda.
He was the first great American radio voice. For most Americans of this generation, their first memory of politics would be of sitting by a radio and hearing that voice, strong, confident, totally at ease. If he was going to speak, the idea of doing something else was unthinkable. ...

Most Americans in the previous 160 years had never even seen a President; now almost all of them were hearing him, in their own homes. It was literally and figuratively electrifying.
