Texas Will Attempt to Show That Polygamist Culture Itself Harms Children
ELDORADO, Tex. -- The ironic thing is that before the big sheriff's department armored personnel carrier appeared outside the Yearning for Zion Ranch, it was starting to seem as though America had finally figured out how to live with its polygamists.
For more than a century, authorities had alternately persecuted and ignored the groups practicing plural marriage around the West -- splinters from mainstream Mormonism, splinters of splinters. Mostly, they ignored them.
But, in the past few years, officials in some states have begun trying to bring these groups out of the shadows. They offered a deal: Marry however often you want, but don't marry children. A Supreme Court case on gay sex also provided unlikely help.
Then came Eldorado.
On April 3, Texas authorities raided the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' compound here, then removed more than 450 children. Now, Texas seems headed for exactly the kind of wrenching, head-on fight that other states have tried to avoid.
Their case will ask: Does this polygamous group deserve a place -- and the right to raise children -- in modern society?

Now comes a legal fight with a twist. The state will argue that the sect's children are at risk at the compound, but not because every one of them has been physically or sexually abused.
Instead, they will say that the culture of the church, which encouraged girls to marry and bear children in their early teens, was a danger to any child immersed in it.

I dont know where you get the feeling that anyone supports any of the actions of this cult. The group is not in favor of tyranny by the Government, but other than that, give them a fair trial then kill them.
I don't like it but that alone would not be cause to remove children from their natural birth mothers. If you take out the under age sex component from this equation, the children seem to be better off than most children borne out of wedlock in any American inner city. That does not mean that I approve of it or think that it's a good idea.

For 75 years the children cried out for help, but help never came.....then one day the children were taken to Texas, and a child cried out one last time a soft....help?”
Except the cry for help came from a 33 year old female, black Obama delegate in Colorado.
BRILLIANT! And FLDS Spiritual Marriage is NOT marriage!
Texas Minor Marraige age is 16 years or older with parents consent. Polygamist Mommy and Daddy cannot consent to their daughter's FLDS Spiritual Marriage (ie. rape) to an adult undivorced man without commiting a FELONY by causing the child to engage in sexual contact in child molestation FLDS Spiritual Marriage (ie. rape) which Texas does not recognize. The childs parents are not the people appointed by Warren Jeffs, convicted child rapist.
Alternatively, a Texas court can be petitioned by a minor and a judge find the child marriage in the best interest of the girl. FYI, no judge will find it in the best interest of a minor girl to marry an already married polygamist whose wives collect welfare checks.
TEXAS FAMILY LAW (kicks polygamist ass)
§ 2.003. APPLICATION FOR LICENSE BY MINOR. In addition to the other requirements provided by this chapter, a person under 18 years of age applying for a license must provide to the county clerk:TEXAS CRIMINAL LAW (kicks polygamist ass)documents establishing, as provided by Section 2.102, parental consent for the person to the marriage; documents establishing that a prior marriage of the person has been dissolved; ora court order granted under Section 2.103 authorizing the marriage of the person.§ 2.102. PARENTAL CONSENT FOR UNDERAGE APPLICANT.(a) If an applicant is 16 years of age or older but under 18 years of age, the county clerk shall issue the license if parental consent is given as provided by this section.§ 2.103. COURT ORDER FOR UNDERAGE APPLICANT.(f) If after a hearing the court, sitting without a jury, believes marriage to be in the best interest of the minor, the court, by order, shall grant the minor permission to marry.
§ 21.11. “how much worse is polygamy than a philandering husband (or wife)? Or a married person using prostitutes? ...not supporting polygamy, just saying there is some hypocrisy in many politicians, government officials and the media.”
Marriage
The FLDS death records should also be interesting especially with the baby graves at their compounds.
Most unsettling is the revelation of countless numbers of unmarked baby graves in the canyonlands attached to the FLDS polygamy cult headquartered on the Utah-Arizona border. - SUZAN MAZUR
Sorry, I have to take exception to this. Not to dis the Amish, but that is their culture.
I really hope the point of all this sturm und drang is not to "mainstream" these kids. Let them dress, eat and live the way they want to, all except that "sex with creepy old men" part.
The damage that has been done to the girls is awful, but the damage that will be done to all of them when told "Uh, gee, sorry, we don't like the way you live, and by the way, EVERYTHING YOU HAVE BEEN TAUGHT IS A LIE so do it our way" just might do them more harm than good (see the "your religion is wrong, convert to mine" threads for reference).
Cattle farmers round these parts often let the heffers get inseminated too early, to bring them into estrus again the next year ... the calves of too early insemination often are born prematurely or die shortly after birth. The ‘studs’ at this ranch were perhaps ‘getting their heffers’ ready for yearly deliveries.
State Family Courts also have a duty to force the fathers to support both their legitimate and illegitimate children. The fathers must get jobs and cannot let the children become welfare wards.
Texas knew before this raid even took place, that they had to help those kids, in fact Utah, Texas, Arizona, Canada, and several more states have been discussing how to end these child rapes for some time.
Recently they have figured out new strategies, and are winning convictions, the crackdown is snowballing and this DNA information may be the big break that we have all been waiting for.
The cults leader is in Arizona right now on trial for more of the rape ceremonies that he and others have already received convictions for, but I expect that he will be in Texas at some point.

‘...you soon get the structure seen within FLDS. Get rid of the boys and trade the girls amongst yourselves like cattle. Within three generations or so (not long the way these sexaholics breed) any decent morally uncrippled males are outathere and all that’s left are the pedophiles.’
So true! Well put, G2.
Operatives, no doubt.
They can disguise it all they want by saying that they're just opposed to government tyranny, but essentially, they think the government shouldn't have gotten involved, which means they find nothing wrong with this group.
Bump to myself, keeping up with today’s threads. This is a really good one, so far...
Are you a Mormon/LDS/fLDS/RLDS that you consider the polygamous pretend these ‘studs’ used for their excuse, to be valid for statutory rape?
At a stake conference over 100 years ago, mainstream LDS leader George Q. Cannon of the First Presidency said: The people of the world do not believe in breeding, but we do. So the people of the world will die out and we will fill the whole earth. I admit those raising children by plural wives are not complying with man-made laws, but in the sight of God they are not sinning, as there is no sin in it. (George Q. Cannon, Sanpete Stake conference, Sept., 1899. Smoot Investigation, Vol. 1, p. 9.) [BTW, fLDS still cite this LDS source]
Thats what happens when you have a wind-up sub.
“Polygamy”
Thank you Colofornian, for quoting that; it’s interesting to learn that a “mainstream” LDS came out and admitted to approving of polygamy. I wonder how widespread that sentiment is in “mainstream” LDS? Hopefully a tiny margin only.
I would think most Mormon *women* would have the same reaction I’d have to any approval of polygamy, NO WAY. That’s gotta be acceptable only to *women* who’ve been brainwashed and / or are so disenfranchised and disadvantaged that they are unable or unwilling to refuse to go along with it.
“Pedophilia”
The pedophilia seems to go hand in hand with the polygamy. It’s a condition straight from the pit of hell.
“Breeding”
Where I live there are lots-o-latinos and lots-o-Native-Americans, and both of those groups have many many noticeably large families. And sometimes when I see those BIG fams, I think, they won’t all be wiped out in some catastrophe (God forbid) the way the rest of us will — at the very least, they have a better chance that someone will be left to carry on.
Of course that’s true for the all with big fams, and so the Mormons and the Roman Catholics would fit in there, at least some of them. If / when the Difficult Times start, they will have better odds of having someone left.
