Don't count on it -- someone in the psychology field will "discover" Pipefitting Fatigue Syndrome or Post-Wiring Attenuation Disorder, and a whole new world of filthy lucre will open up to these charlatans.
listen stooopid... those are the questions you're supposed to ask BEFORE you pay for college.
BUMP!!
If it's not on the list, please don't excerpt.
5 years as a paid apprentice, just got “turned out” as a journeyman. $35/hr and folks are calling him all the time trying to hire him away from the job he has now.
He is a certified welder. IF he wanted to work on the Slope, he could pull in $65/hr. So far he is working on large industrial HVAC as that is a worldwide labor shortage field - he can work anywhere he wants and at a good wage.
College isn't for everyone. And a position requiring a degree doesn't alawys pay well.
The oil industry consumes 20% of the world production of steel. Somebody needs to cut and weld that and it should pay well because few have the necessary permits/certifications, not to mention the talent and skills. It’s a sure career for a long time to come. Maybe even open a shop and hire welders/pipefitters/gas plumbers to work for you so you can push paper instead of working. :)
read the book, College Without Compromise... there are lots of more inexepensive ways to earn a college degree... i am hoping that my sons do what my friend’s daughter did... she earned her AA (two years of college) while earning her high school diploma... she is 17 and graduating from a junior college in May and graduating from high school in June... she will begin attending a univesity right out of high school as a junior...
Once upon a time that may have been the case. But today, students are force-fed leftist and socialist garbage, with freedom of speech stifled if it strays from the party line.
I was thinking the same thing. Not that a girl couldn’t be a very good welder or plumber, but most girls just aren’t interested in that stuff.
Printing is dying, too. Unless you open a small shop.
I’ve seen them, and they are weirdo’s
To quote Dan Taylor: “My feeling for sometime has been that the greatest threat to the American future was not terrorism but the Teacher’s Unions.”
The article would have been a five star finale if that was all he wrote.
Dan’s a good guy. I say that everytime I read his articles because he’s struggling to be a real man. I’ve met girly-boys like him and they struggle. But Dan is trying and he’s basically a good guy.
Dan Taylor - A Good Guy!
Let’s hear it for the future!
Yours truly,
The Woim
I know a friend who did that, but she ran into one major snag: she had just turned 17, and while employers were looking for someone with a degree, they all ended up turning her down because they weren’t allowed to hire her because she wasn’t 18. She finally found a place that was willing to work around it (they hired her for something else, gave her the responsibilities and pay of the position they needed filled, then ‘promoted’ her after her birthday).
my friend's daughter will not have that problem... she is 17 now... she will be 19 (almost 20) in two years when she finishes her 4 years of college...
personally, i would not want my sons to finish college before the age of 18... i'm just hoping to have them do the double dipping thing, earning the first two years of college while they are doing high school... it saves money and time...
Or his daughter might take the course that the link in his blog goes to; Strategicoach. 3 year course, 4 one day meetings per year, $4500.00 to $7500.00 per year.
If nothing else she could learn all the right “buzz” word and phrases and that has to be worth something.
With the crime rate on the rise I strongly recommend the Judge School!
Gives a new meaning to plumbers crack.
