I went to college there and I have very fond memories.

"Geology: Lake Tahoe from space (north is to the right)The Lake Tahoe Basin was formed by a geologic block (normal) faulting about 2 million years ago. A geologic block fault is a fracture in the earth's crust causing blocks of land to move up or down. Uplifted blocks created the Carson Range on the east and the Sierra Nevada on the west. Down-dropped blocks (a graben) created the Lake Tahoe Basin in between.[1] More technically, Lake Tahoe is the youngest of several extensional basins of the Walker Lane Deformation Belt that accommodates nearly 12 mm/yr of dextral shear between the Sierra Nevada Microplate and North America.[3][4] The Tahoe basin is formed by a series of large down-to-the-east normal faults, including the West Tahoe—Dollar Point fault, Stateline/North Tahoe fault and the Incline Village fault.[5] These right-stepping en-echelon faults are capable of large magnitude 7 earthquakes, with the most recent M7 paleoquake (~500 B.P.) occurring on the Incline Village fault with nearly 3 m of vertical offset[6] Some of the highest peaks of the Lake Tahoe Basin that formed during process of Lake Tahoe creation are Freel Peak at 10,891 ft (3,320 m), Monument Peak at 10,067 ft (3,068 m) (the present Heavenly Ski Resort), Pyramid Peak at 9,983 ft (3,043 m) (in the Desolation Wilderness), and Mount Tallac at 9,735 ft (2,967 m). Eruptions from the extinct volcano Mount Pluto formed a dam on the north side. Melting snow filled the southern and lowest part of the basin to form the ancestral Lake Tahoe. Rain and runoff added additional water."

Late here, but Lawton is hard to get to now. They put a fence up and some guy thinks he is going to develop it. Been tried several times. Swarm has subsided after a 3.7 later in the night.

Caldera all around. Truckee River drains the Tahoe Basin. If I get a chance I will drive out and get some pics of the terrain. Age is about the same as the rest of the Sierras 12 million years give or take.

How about in the area of the quakes are there any wilting or dead plants or if you touch the ground in different shady areas is the ground hotter in different areas? Are there any volcanologist studding the event?

We learn time and time again not to trust government to do the right thing... it seems we should at lest look and see what we can notice without good instruments.

Most of these quakes are 2 kilometers deep. The area in question has many houses on it. The mountains around still have snow so I do not suspect ground heat yet.

Humm never heard it has a specific name but I sure the map guys have one. I will check that. It is more of a very large deposit of glacier and water activity fanned out all along where the River breaks out of the canyon. It goes from about a 1/4 mile wide to open valley in about 7 miles. Tahoe is at 6225 feet and Reno is at 4700 feet. All of the water from the Tahoe watershed comes down the Truckee River. In the past there was a sea that covered the area all the way to Salt Lake City. Pyramid Lake is one of the remnants. There are frequent quakes under and around Pyramid all small.

I also lived in Kalifornia for over 20 years. I cannot recall a swarm like this in SoCal or around San Jose.

Yes it was a nice bump with a roll here.

There have been some big, long swarms out in the desert in California, places like Coso.

Italy has a history of pretty destructive swarms with a lot of medium-sized shocks.

Fox news has been reporting this morning (monday) that Reno residents are being advised to expect these quakes in Reno to continue to get worse?
