The Straight Talk Express is retired. Political Correctness, here we come.

Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain accused North Carolina's Republican Party of being "out of touch with reality" over its refusal to pull an advertisement criticizing Democrat Barack Obama.

The advertisement criticized Barack Obama for being too extreme. Well, he is. It's not just all of his associations that have come to light in recent months. He was described in the National Journal as the most liberal member of the Senate. The main stream media wouldn't hesitate to describe any conservative as extreme. There's no good reason to gratuitously bash the North Carolina GOP. That wasn't enough. He felt compelled to bash the Bush Administration for the response to Katrina, while ignoring the abysmal performances of the Democrat mayor and governor. When push comes to shove in the general election, does Senator McCain expect volunteers to come forward from independents and moderates?

Since he became a prisoner of war decades ago, the Democrat Party has morphed into the local branch of the Socialist International. Within a few months of toppling Saddam's regime in Iraq, the Democrat Party led by its Moveon.org faction, has been openly undermining our efforts in Iraq and trying to portray it as an exercise in imperialism doomed to failure like Vietnam.

All is fair in love and war. We can't have an honest discussion with the left. It's no time to refuse weapons given to the GOP when the only weapons we really have are the opposition's own words. The left has infected all politics with its vile political correctness so much that conservatives can't say anything about domestic politics without being called mean, sexist, racist or homophobic. In foreign affairs, the left is not satisfied unless American interests are sacrificed, and we kowtow to a useless United Nations. Otherwise, they say we are warmongers. That's the state of the supposedly loyal opposition that conservatives are expected by Senator McCain to treat with due deference. Is he nuts? I'm serious.

This year the Democrats were supposed to do well nationwide, but almost all of our ills can be traced back to Democrats or their their half baked economic solutions, global warming foolery and sedition over Iraq. Our economy sucks because of left wing handicaps of printing fiat currency, easy credit, over regulation of industry, entitlement spending, etc. Our economy is going nowhere fast without cheap energy, energy independence, spending discipline and entitlement reform.

Senator McCain will face either Obama or Hillary, each easily described as an extremist from the left. Both are in the pocket of the NEA, and they promise to improve medical care in this country the same way as the left has improved education in this country. Twenty five years later, education is worse.

Senator McCain's medical history is well known. His left jaw looks rather pronounced. His sanity and his temper is often questioned. The American people, not just the GOP before he actually gets the nomination, deserve to know the results of his current medical status, including imaging studies, IMHO.

Ignorance of American history is endemic in the USA.

Yes and you are proof. I will give you Grover was honest, but Warren was the first Clinton.

Even the NY Slimes gave up on bashing Harding, ten years ago!

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C04E7D8113DF930A1575BC0A96E958260

Harding’s cabinet, handpicked by him, was one of the most distinguished in US history. Charles Evans Hughes in State, Andrew Mellon in Treasury, Herbert Hoover in Commerce. Harding went for the best men, and got them. Even the man who most embarassed him, Senator Albert Fall of New Mexico, was very well qualified for the job he was given, and the infamous Teapot Dome oil lease was granted on terms very favorable to the U.S. government. Harding’s Washington Naval Conference gave the US an edge in Pacific sea power that lasted until Pearl Harbor. But the highlight of Harding’s administration was probably his great civil rights speech at Birmingham Alabama on October 26th, 1921.

I think that Warren Harding was the most unfairly maligned President ever.

Most people are captive to the lies they were taught as school children. I admit that I’m still recovering from that affliction myself.

>> Pubbies, donkeys and Independents against the war elected McRino, not conservatives or most libertarians

The primary choices were disastrous from the start. Few showed passionate interest and the constituency in total was uninformed and indifferent.

I think the Republican community is battle fatigued and unsure of itself. It dropped its compass.

Has there ever been a time in this great nation of ours when voters had to choose between such shallow, dangerous, egotistical candidates?

The joke I've been telling lately is this one:

Hillary, Obama, and McCain are in a small boat on a stormy ocean. The boat capsizes. Who survives?

America.

Freepers, please help me: Has there ever been a time in this great nation of ours when voters had to choose between such shallow, dangerous, egotistical candidates?

Perhaps the election of 1856 which resulted in the election of James Buchanan and finally the rise of the GOP to elected A. Lincoln in 1860.

The historical precedent is there that it's time to form a new conservative party. When the Whigs became too much like the dems in the 1850's, they were replaced by the Republican Party. As the GOP continues to slither into indistinguishability from its democrat counterpart under Bush, the time is right, historically, to begin supporting 3rd party candidates who are still genuinely conservative.

The conservative philosphy is just too important to the future of our nation and to the well-being of mankind to carelessly trash it for comparatively worthless party loyalty.

Then how do you explain Thompson and Hunter? Both spoke conservative principles, yet both were ignored by the electorate at large.

Thompson is no Conservative, and does not speak the truth. Hunter just simply was not heard.

It takes someone to speak, but also someone to listen. The latter is the responsibility of the voters.

I don't believe it, or at least not in the way you have framed it. THREE conservative states had a Conservative choice, and of those, the conservatives were diminished in order to suppress them. It is not a matter of ignoring, but of ignorance. Many didn't even hear the conservative word, and those that did, where such a word would have the most impact, no longer had the choice.

Oh, well, okay. I see where you are coming from now and understand there is no point in discussing it.

It is not a matter of ignoring, but of ignorance. Many didn't even hear the conservative word...

Which is pretty much my first point that you took issue with.

I’m not saying that the dims are going to help anything. They’ll be a disaster. I”m saying we need to have a party that believes in conservative principles—balanced budgets, small government—exactly the opposite of what we’ve had the last eight years.

“As far as the prerogatives of the Commander in Chief during hostilities, I’m willing to sort it out after the fact.”

Let’s see. We’ve had almost seven years of hostilities so far, and no end in sight. The Islamists don’t look like they’re going to fold up the tents and behave any time soon. Exactly when should the suspension of our laws and constitution end? Is bin Laden’s legacy going to be that he scared the American people into surrendering the freedom that was once supremely important to them?

Could you be more specific about what sections you think have been suspended? I don't have a problem with interceping foreign commo/signals while waiting for a federal judges OK. Intel is one thing. Evidence for court is another.

I’m not either. He’s a lamebrained moron who seems to want to throw the election secretly, in my opinion. I say use all the scandals that have occurred with Obama as weapons to beat him to death. This entirely too serious a situation to allow a committed leftist like Obama to get anywhere near the White House. If this fool McCain dosen’t want to win, then someone who DOES needs to be drafted. I sadly think that we’ll be wishing that we did draft someone.

"I thought you didn't want to vote for McCain. ;) "

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really don't want to vote for mcstain...but, I would hate even worse one of the even-further left socialists to get in charge...they could screw up a lot in 4 years.

So, I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't. If I stay home, it's the same voting for obama-clinton...I don't know if I can live with myself a couple of years later when the socialists are raping America, knowing I some part in making that happen.

So I'll go vote for mcstain. I hate it...but staying home is NOT going to teach the pubbies a lesson, and voting 3rd parting is Perot all over again...so, I'm going to hold the nose, and vote for mcstain. Uggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Voting for leftist traitor Juan, voting 3rd party and/or staying home aren't the only options open to you, you know. ;) My suggestion: do as I'll be doing, and simply vote for conservatives down ticket, while leaving the top space blank. Your vote for genuine, principled conservatives elsewhere on the ballot won't count one whit less, just because there's no "X" next to the name of any one of the liberals running for President.

That way, at least, I can still live with both myself and my conscience.
