I think most people are missing the subtlety here. McCain gets to take the high road while at the same time the ad gets far more publicity than if it were being run in NC. It’s gotten tons of Youtube hits, Rush is publicizing it yet McCain’s hands seem clean. It’s a win-win and, I think, the intentional strategy here.

“McCain should have been darn sure the NC Pubbies would listen to him before he took ‘em on publicly. Now he looks impotent. Arrogance will bite ya every time.”

What in McCain’s history would lead one to believe he is saying or doing anything along those lines. He’s a liberal Republican and he’s acting like it.

Even if that were true (it’s not) how do you explain the damage that the media questioning McCain’s leadership will do? The fact that the NC GOP is flipping McCain the bird will be brought up again and again in the general when McCain tries to say he has the leadership qualities to govern. “How can he govern the country when he can’t even control his own party?” will be the theme.

Any way you look at it, this is a lose-lose for McCain.

Wrong. You lose.

McCain has done this 3 times already (Criticized a Republican saying something completely innocent, yet critical of a Democrat.)

McCain has a long, sordid history of jumping on Republicans much faster than he’ll ever criticize a democrat.

Yeah. it's a real brilliant strategy, alienating even more Republicans.

McCain gets to take the high road ...

There is a limit to the number of 'crossover' votes that McCain will get by adopting the same liberal language and positions as the wacko America haters.

After that, all McCain does is piss off the Republican base.
