SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) - Dozens of mothers from a polygamist retreat were bused away from their children Thursday, their legal efforts to stay united rejected as Texas officials sort out their massive custody case.
Two buses took the women from the San Angelo Coliseum, where they had been temporarily housed with their children. Texas officials were preparing to move the last of more than 400 children to group homes, shelters and residences, some hundreds of miles away, over the next few days.
One woman held a handwritten sign out the bus window that read: "SOS. Mothers separated. Help."
"There are no words to describe how it was," said Velvet, a mother who was forced to leave her 13-month old. She and other sect women have refused to give their last names, fearing it will affect their custody cases.
"We've been staying up nights to watch over the children because we didn't know what would happen," she said in a news conference outside the ranch gates Thursday.
In Austin, the state's 3rd Court of Appeals rejected the mothers' pleas to immediately stop authorities from busing the children taken from the ranch to foster homes.
The court agreed to hear arguments Tuesday, but attorney Robert Doggett, who represents 48 mothers, said that "having a hearing after the fact" was pointless.

LOL bump!
Sure it does--because the same repeat offenders will be repeating the same offenses on this and every other FLDS thread. Her post was spot-on accurate in describing how too many of us (mis)behave.
“Spam is not allowed.”
So you’ll be sure to protest the anti-mainstream-LDS spam that certain FReepers repeatedly post, ad nauseum, in these FLDS threads. Right?
I Understand what the law says but I know of several stories whe DFACS gets involved after a parent disciplines a child in public. Lets not kid ourselves by saying the state always obeys the law. It just isnt so.
Which church do you belong to?
You mean similar to that described in the whiny posts like this
you seem to be so partial to lately... ? Is a mantra like......spam?
That isn’t what you said.
You said the state would take away any child who was known to be spanked.
I am Southern Baptist. I live in GA. I spank my children. It’s only prudent not to give busybodies ammunition by spanking in public.
All I can say to that is you should not live in fear of your government it should be the other way around. Goverment should fear you, because eventually they will push more and more not less, unless they are stopped. One day homeschoolers will be declared as having abused their children by keeping them out of a public schools mark my words. And then it will be too late.
Thats how the Nazis did it they passed law afer law and the people did nothing because it was not affecting them but eventually everyone was oppressed. Freedoms dies easiest when its death by a thousand cuts.
I object to a huge picture that has ruined the formatting of my screen repeatedly, causing me great annoyance. I probably would have ignored it if it was used less obnoxiously.
Nondenomitional Christian, as I have stated before. Yes, we have crosses in our church, in rembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice for all mankind.
It should not be a surprise the caller made mistakes.
It seems most people have a surname from a short list. Many are Jessop, Barlow, Jeffs, etc.
Plus they lie about their names, ages, and relationships.
In view of that, an informant could easily make detail mistakes, yet get the overall list of problems quite correct.
I object to the formatting as well. I hate oversized pictures.
Now, getting back to the separate issue of spam that you brought up...
You’ll also protest repetitive anti-Mormon spam that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand of the FLDS, correct?
Nondenominational Christian
So, you’re Catholic, then.
In other words, nope. And I'll make you a promise, whenever there's a tragedy with children comparable to the one the FLDS is committing that touches my church, I will voluntarily proclaim it on FR.
Actually, as I said, I will ignore it, as I ignore most other spam, unless it is especially obnoxious.
Are you accusing me of being somehow anti-mormon?
I don’t believe I have said a single word about mormons in relationship to this case.
Life in the real world (The evils of polygamy)
No, I’m just wondering if you are uniformly anti-spam. These threads are clogged with anti-LDS spam, but it seems like it’s only the LDS that get upset by it.
So that they don't disappear.
