It looks like the MSM is trying to create a self-fulfilling prophesy. Frenzied articles in the MSM cause hoarding; hoarding causes temporary, localized shortages; more frenzied reports — etc. Once everyone has horded everything they can; there’ll be a monster glut to clear.

It’s been the MSM’s design for the last few years - attacking the economy in general. Keep reporting about “recession”, and eventually it’ll happen.

I agree - we're being manipulated. Whatever happened to all the articles about how Americans are too fat and food too plentiful? In the space of a few weeks we've gone from having too much food to having empty rice shelves. If this weren't an election year, I suspect things would be reported differently.

No doubt there are challenges, but I have a lot of faith in ordinary hard-working people the world over. If our politicians will only get out of the way, we'll muddle through this too.

The “Just in time” logistical model of todays supply chains are also a big part of the problem. Consumer items no longer sit in vast warehouses close to the retailer anymore, supply chains are hundreds if not thousands of miles away. Big surges in demand over a short period of time can strain this system to the limit very easily.
