What I heard about the one-handed stance with the pistol is not because it’s cool, but because if you’re in a gunfight there’s no cover around, turning sideways makes your body a smaller target and therefore harder to hit, but of course it’s harder to hit the other guy that way too, so the entire thing turns into lots of shooting at each other and hitting pretty much everything in range.
Ah... No, I’m not talking about turning your torso sideways, I mean turning the gun over sideways. With the sights now on the side they’re useless. Recoil also now throws off the aim on a horizontal axis instead of vertical. Its a stupid way to gunfight.
Turning the torso sideways is a dueling technique since the invention of dueling pistols. But smoothbore dueling pistols were horribly inaccurate anyway. A weaver stance wouldn’t have helped. Presenting a smaller target was a good strategy.
But with a modern pistol a shooter can place a shot pretty much exactly where they aim. So shot placement becomes more important than presenting an only slightly smaller target.
