SAN ANGELO, Texas – The first of more than 400 children taken from a polygamist compound boarded buses Tuesday bound for 16 emergency shelters, children's homes and foster care agencies throughout the state, including two in North Texas.

As the buses rolled out, the children eagerly waved and smiled at television cameras. Lawyers inside the San Angelo Coliseum who were meeting with their adult or child clients said authorities allowed no one in or out while the children, 114 of them by day's end, were loaded onto the buses.

The authorities in Texas, then, according to your logic, should round up all the illegitimate children of teenage girls in Texas who were impregnated by older men. Period. This because the authorities in Texas care “for the children”.

I am saying look around - there are communities in America where it is accepted, the culture if you will, that teenage girls should get pregnant and have babies in order to collect welfare, and the mothers of the girls are encouraging it. So why would the State Texas choose these FLDS people to pick on? And, again, I am wondering why they didn’t round up all the men and leave the innocent children alone.

The FLDS women are brainwashed ignorant fools but I don’t think they are evil. If you start ripping children out of the arms of every brainwashed ignorant fool teenage female in America, well, you’re talking about millions.

Someone must want that ranch land pretty bad.

What do you make of the fact that the children don't know who their biological mothers are?

Some of those children (now older) were taken from other FLDS and their biological mothers when Jeffs moved to the Texas compound. Surely that is evil?

Saundra. I certainly disagree with your basic arguments. I like a scrapper. I even admire Hillary. Most of us here do adhere to the principle of - I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it.

Could you possibly spare a thought for the authorities? In the case of a like compound in Canada, Bountiful,British Columbia, which indeed is connected with the Texas one, the Canadian authorities twice turned down the police. First on the criminal offence of polygamy, the politicos turned down the police recomendation of charges. They feared the leftist courts would then legitimise that practice, under the new charter of rights and freedoms.

Just over a year ago, the RCMP recommended charges once more. This on the act of prohibiting persons of power and trust from exploiting under 18 year olds, sexually. (A five year maximum rap). The politicos rejected that advice. They said they would hardly be able to prove the case in court.

The Canadian politicos can sit back and enjoy the summer, not a care in the world- "up a lazy river by the old mill run" etc. The Texas authorities are having to cope with a very touchy situation. They could have procrastinated.

Bravo for them, says I.

so it isn't best that the children are kept (in some kind of custody, if necessary) with their mothers.

Well, yeah. That's why they're doing the DNA testing; to find out who the mothers are. Since they are shuffled around at whim of the cult leaders, and are raised as litters by caretakers, they don't know who mom is.

I could see them smiling as they drove away. I'd be happy to leave that place too.

So we should let this cult go just because we don’t prosecute EVERY other case of rape in the country?

By that reasoning, we shouldn’t prosecute murderers because not all murderers are caught and prosecuted.

By that reasoning, we shouldn’t prosecute thieves cause not all thieves are caught and prosecuted.

It is evil evil evil to take these children away from their mothers.

That's right. That is why the cult should be stopped from continuing this practice and the children should be returned to their biological mothers as soon as the DNA testing is finalized.

No. The authorities in Texas should follow the law. The Child Protective Services department should do the best they can to find homes for these kids.

Where is the LDS church in all of this? You are LDS. Are you offering your home to these FLDS children?

Where is the massive LDS Missionary?

Millions upon millions of dollars in the coffers. Where are they?

Just like all the people who say that we are being duped by the media, you can’t trust it, it’s all hype and lies until......

the media reports that the initial call was possibly a hoax....

THEN, that story is treated as if it came down from heaven and was written on tablets of stone by the Finger of God Himself.

I think a lot of LDS folks are confused about how to tackle this issue.

Ping material.

Nancy Grace just talked about the FLDS cult - it was devastating.

I am sure I can get a transcript tomorrow.

Perhaps they should refer to the words of Christ in the Gospel? (no "reformed" there to intrude).

One 14 year old that is known of, and all 437 children should be ripped from their mothers and placed in a corrupt and violence filled foster care system?

I resent your attitude toward foster parents.

"The children suffer behind an iron curtain of corrupt secrecy. That curtain was lifted a few years ago, long enough to get a brief but terrifying glimpse of what was being done by people who had placed themselves beyond accountability.

Scores of children were killed, poisoned, beaten, and otherwise abused each year. Child rape was terrifyingly common: The largest group of victims were between 12 and 15 years of age, but thirteen percent of the victims were three years old or younger.

An official investigation of this secretive system was undertaken, but soon foundered over obstructions thrown up by those who had the most to lose if the full truth were revealed. But before the portcullis was slammed shut, the investigator learned that a child being raised in that system was four times more likely to die of criminal violence than a child in the general population.

The obvious course of action would be to mount an armed raid to liberate those children, but whatever necessary means, from the abusive system in which they're being held.

Unfortunately, the entity that would carry out such an operation also presides over the systematic abuse. The findings described above are from an abortive investigation of the Texas Foster Care System conducted by Carole Keeton Strayhorn on behalf of the state Comptroller's office.

ripped from their mothers

This is a most popular phrase. Why wasn't it being used when Warren Jeffs "ripped" some of these same children away from their REAL mothers and took them Texas with him?

Some of these children don't know who their biological mothers are.
