I think the word you’re looking for is ‘predominant,’ not predominate. I understand that by asking your question initially, you were implying something. I based my answer on having watched several episodes of ‘COPS’.... lol. Most of their Nashville suspects are white and they are doozies. Sorry, I’ve never seen such lowlifes in my life, certainly not around here.

And Memphis is even worse, right?

However, it seems you are making the case that whites are proportionally responsible at a lower rate for street crime, but at a MUCH higher rate for “white collar” crime... correct?

Look at the article again. It’s very short, a sound bit really. I try to base my comments on the posted article. The claim that L.A. is a third world city, based on immigration statistics, is false.

We have had a high immigrant population ever since I can remember. Back mid-20th century, the white immigration was from the mid-West U.S. and black from the South U.S. In the late ‘70s and into the ‘80s, a huge influx from New York, mostly NYC. That started the trend to rudeness and bad traffic, IMO, plus elitist attitudes.

Mexicans have been here forever, and there are several-generation familias in East L.A. In public life, they assimilated like everyone else but had their own private life culture. No problema.

The Reagan amnesty brought the first flood of illegals, not only from Mexico but heavily from El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala, many of the Central Americans being true refugees. There was, at first, resentment from the older Mexican American families towards the “pochos.”

California is the fifth largest economy in the world, and the largest food producer in the U.S. and has always needed farm labor. That’s another factor I’ll throw in.

Now the hi-tech industries need skilled workers. They come from India and Asia. I personally have an immigrant friend from Czech Republic, here 10 years and now a citizen. The 50% immigrant work force referred to in the news bite is not all Mexican or Hispanic, by any means.

Truth be told, the only growing influx to the U.S. I would truly worry about is Islamic.

Memphis is black crime.

COPS is not exactly a statistics source entertaining or not.

White collar crime has very little to do with safe streets.

One cannot deny that crime is higher in barrios than elsewhere. It is simply a fact.

I can’t argue that Northeasterners tend to be more demanding and rude...lol...you won’t get an argument from me on that.

In the case of Los Angeles th demographic that makes huge parts of the city so dangerous for everyone is black or hispanic. Plain and simple. It’s not whites or asians.

the immigration argument is a long one and has more to do with culture than race.

but being one who comes from a long line of poor white folks I don’t believe poverty is responsible for predatory crime

What seems to be lost in the translation is the culture the immigrants bring with them and the attitude they have toward integration within the existing culture to which they've entered.

There are two attitudes here. Immigrants who wish to be 'Americans' and integrate themselves into the American culture and immigrants who are only here for the money.

Your Czech friend wanted to become an American, so he learned English and became a citizen. The Mexican illegal aliens do not wish to become Americans and thus, do not learn the language, or only learn enough to get by and make no attempt to become citizens. They make no attempt to integrate into American society as citizens and instead, bring their cultural 'heritage' here with them.

Lastly, you didn't answer my quetion. You mentioned that change is inevitable. So, once again, I ask; Has the influx of large numbers of Mexican illegal aliens changed L.A. for better or for worse?
