Going back to the Opium Wars of the 1840s and the Boxer Rebellion of 1900, Chinese mobs have a very long and violent tradition of attacking foreigners. I guess these obviously liberal Ivy Leaguers who were at this protest because it was the cool thing to do found out the hard way.
