MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (KDKA) ― An independent panel investigating the Master's Degree that West Virginia University awarded to Mylan Inc. Executive Heather Bresch, has unanimously ruled that Bresch did not earn the degree, according to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The five-member panel was formed after the PG reported that Bresch had not completed all of the course work required to receive a master's of business administration degree.
The controversy was heightened by the fact that Bresch is the daughter of West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin and a childhood friend of WVU's president.
Over the past few weeks, Bresch has maintained that she earned the degree, telling the West Virginia Metro-News, "I hope they get to the right place which is that I earned my degree back in 1998."
WVU's provost received the report yesterday. Provost Gerald Lang told the Associated Press that the university had to first review the report before it would go to the Faculty Senate and be made public.
Hmm, the fact that it took place in West Virginia didn’t tip you off?
So my question is; guilty or not guilty? Think I need a picture.
Hmmm, personally I’m undecided... Suppose she is probably a Democrat (in the genes). Guilty.
It’s less about party affiliation than it is privilege and power.
I could post volumes about it but the bottom line is this:
College enrollments, withdrawals and transfers take place every day across thousands of colleges every day. Someone who attended college A for a single semester 5 years ago should be able to obtain his transcript with minimal fuss upon applying to college B. This information is often forwarded electronically these days but even a hard copy can be produced by the registrar in less than 24 hrs for the most obscure and transient of students.
Now we have the daughter of a prominent WV family whose father is the governor and whose employer is WVU’s largest donor and one of Morgantown’s largest employers. Suddenly all those wonderful expensive record-keeping systems are either insufficient or incapable of producing a complete set of data on one particular individual - by coincidence it’s the very person whose credentials are being questioned!
It is a gross understatement to say that it beggars belief.
I don’t know what’s worse - the people who are actually buying the fairy tales issued every so often by the affected parties or the people who expect the fairy tales to be taken as fact.
The faculty senate, usually reduced to grumping about the brand of coffee purchased on campus, have been enjoying their who-struck-John investigation but are ultimately impotent.
The powers that be have been given months to produce a nice batch of whitewash and they are cooking it up as we speak.
Mind you the in-state papers have been getting scooped by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from the word go. They obviously have no interest in pursuing the story and are content to ‘report’ on things by reprinting quotes and press releases verbatim. Journalistic malpractice doesn’t come close to describing the WV print media’s coverage - intentional obfuscation and sabotage is more accurate.
At they can’t take away her West Virgina School of Hard Knocks degree.
ive heard from what I consider reliable persons from years gone by, that many US government exacutives of all levels claim degrees never earned and from mail order “universities.” Those who have FBI background investigations are discovered. BGI by other agencies often get by.
