Katie Couric just can't catch a break.
The CBS News anchor was looking forward to moderating a Democratic presidential candidate debate in North Carolina on Sunday, an event network executives hoped would spotlight something other than a recent spate of stories suggesting Couric may leave her post in the coming year.
But without a commitment from Sen. Barack Obama that he would participate, the North Carolina Democratic Party canceled the tentatively scheduled forum today because of “time constraints and logistical issues associated with such a large, national event,” according to a statement on the party’s website.
The party had gotten 20,000 requests for tickets, but suggested there’s a diminishing appetite among the Democratic rank-and-file for another showdown between Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton.
“You have shown tremendous passion and interest in being....
a part of history as Democrats are poised this year to elect the first female or African American president,” the party’s statement read. “However, there were also growing concerns about what another debate would do to party unity.”
Paul Friedman, CBS News’ senior vice president, said Couric and the rest of the news division were disappointed the forum was called off.

Schaedenfreude? LMAO
Couric moderating Obama and Clinton would be like Obermann moderating Mr. Ed and Joan Crawford.
However, there were also growing concerns about what another debate would do to party unity.
I envisioned the next debate with BO questioning the identity of Chelsea’s father, and Hill calling BO vanilla.
Debates are not Obama’s strong suit.
Katie are serious anchorlady, dammit
“...a recent spate of stories suggesting Couric may leave her post in the coming year.”
What, is Al-Jazeera hiring?
“Pearls or Diamonds? Boxers or Briefs?.. Hi America, I’m Katie Couric and welcome to tonight’s debate..”
Who’s Katie Couric?
The debate might have been too late. Early voting began April 16. By election day, hundreds of thousands will have already voted.
She's the DNC's ambassador to America.
Makes it more likely she steps down this summer..

This shows how dead is the Old Media - if they had any power they would find a different sponsor, like the League of Women Voters or the WeatherUnderground (/sarcasm off)and have a debate. CBS has lost sight of how to be powerful. Heck do you think the DailyKos would not sponsor a debate? How about a joint Web and TV debate? The old media is like the old coffee companies they sat on their hands while Starbucks became a legend. Now the media is standing on the sidelines while Free Republic and Pajamas Media unite their readers on the web.
“Debates are not Obamas strong suit.”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
His only strong suit seems to be an empty one, reading mindless drivel from a teleprompter in his “magnificent baritone”. He may be the least qualified person ever to win a nomination if the Dummies go through with this.
