I wasn’t too happy about the US Post Office “Eid” stamp, but at least here in the US it’s not a crime to complain about it. Yet. I think...

The standard has already been set - America already allows so-called "reasonable" restrictions on speech (for example, political speech), just like "reasonable" restrictions on firearm ownership. We presently enjoy what many see not as an inalienable right, but as a government-endowed luxury...a luxury some doubt we can afford (because of whatever bogeyman of the age is about). This is 'the way'.

Precedent is law (actually, it is now the highest of all laws) - so the only question is when, not if. Many within the mainstream of both major political parties are warm to the current language of UN hate-crimes pronouncements, just as they are warm to adopting laws and standards from other nations. As far as the issue of free-speech goes, the political goal seems to be to make sure that it is a particular party-line that is hewed to (and God help those who go against that orthodoxy). This is 'the will'.

"Hate speech" laws are at the gates, and laws regarding "thought crimes" are on the horizon. The sheeple will even consent, I guarantee it.
