Anthony Gutierrez timeline
Friday, April 18, 2008

Anthony Gutierrez ran into problems both before and after Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann gave him a top management job.

2006

Sept. 22: Gutierrez is arrested for drunken driving by the State Highway Patrol near Youngstown. He registers a .149 blood-alcohol content, nearly twice the legal limit of .08.

Nov. 7: Dann is elected state attorney general.

Dec. 22: Gutierrez submits part of his application for employment at the attorney general’s office. He answers “none” to a question that asks applicants to list traffic citations or accidents in the last five years.

2007
Jan. 6: Gutierrez writes a check for $3,095.84 to the attorney general’s office in a settlement reached with the Ohio Department of Taxation for more than $5,000 owed in back taxes. Personnel records show that he also owed more than $10,000 in back federal taxes.

Jan. 9: Gutierrez pleads no contest to reckless operation in connection with the drunken driving arrest. His driver’s license is suspended through March 20.

Feb. 5: Gutierrez is hired as director of general services at $80,018 annually.

April: Gutierrez assigns himself the first of four state-owned SUVs that are part of the attorney general’s office fleet.

Sept. 10: Gutierrez spends an evening drinking and socializing with a woman he hired and supervises who later accuses him of sexually harassing her.

Sept. 16: Gutierrez’ salary is raised to $87,485 annually.

Oct. 10: Gutierrez drops off his state-owned Chevy Suburban at the office’s vehicle repair garage with extensive body damage but no explanation of how the damage occurred.

2008
March: Two women who work for Gutierrez, including the woman he was with on Sept. 10, accuse him of sexual harassment, alleging he used his authority to pressure them for sex. The complaints lead to an internal investigation.

April 7: Gutierrez is suspended with pay.

April 8: Dann removes himself from the investigation, but keeps it in house. Both accusers file federal complaints, and one is considering a criminal complaint.
