How the world was misled about global warming and now climate change
Canada Free Press ^ | 4/21/08 | Tim Ball

Once you realize humans are not causing global warming and/or climate change, then you need an explanation for how and why so many people appear to think they are. In two previous articles (Environmental Extremism and Historical and philosophical context of the climate change debate.) we examined the philosophical and historical context of climate change and specifically the focus on humans as the cause.

We explained the philosophical concept of uniformitarianism that dominates western science; the incorrect idea that change is gradual over long periods of time. We looked at how the scientific method of testing the theory that human CO2 was causing warming/climate change was effectively bypassed. Now we need to examine how politics took over climate science through exploitation of public fear and lack of knowledge.

That is one of my favorite sites. Not just the test but the main one. It totally debunks the “man made global warming” goofballs in a way anyone with a 6th grade education can understand and even remember.

If Polar caps and Greenland-ice-sheet melt, most of Earth Mass is going to go under water due to 40 foot rise in sea-level.

Wait a minute. How can you argue with that, RobRoy? Most of the earth's mass is already under water...and has been for over a billion years. On the other hand... since I live at 7,600+ feet I'm not sweating a 40 foot sea level rise. Especially since no one can (or will) say what change there has been in the last 100 years.

I’m helping to launch a new party. See tagline. The nomination of McCain is more than I could tolerate. Global warming, amnesty, Law of the Sea Treaty, gun control lite, campaign finance reform, etc. No Mas, as Roberto Duran would say.

“It is a marketing ploy”

You said it! Everything this spring is about environmentalism. The little girls purses say Green is beautiful, Green is the new black (like little black dress), makeup is now getting into the act with all “natural green” ingredients, cars are now getting into the act, you can’t get away from it, it’s everywhere you look....I wish it would go away just like every other stupid fad! But I fear this time we’ll be stuck with it for years until we have a new ice age, and then we’ll be blamed for that! Science doesn’t know for sure, anyone besides me remember Carl Sagan predicting a world wide deep freeze if Saddam set the oil fields on fire??? Poor Carl, he was so wrong, but he’d probably be on the GW bandwagon if he were still alive.

The only problem with that attempted humor is that we already have evidence of many civilizations that were flourishing and are now either buried under thick sheet of ice, or covered under thick canopy of rainforest or lying under a sandbed. Climate changes do occur. Life goes on.

Exactly! And it always has changed. 10,000 years ago sea levels were 800 feet lower. That would really be a problem if buildings lasted, in useful condition, for more than a couple of hundred years. But they don't and human beings like to build new things constantly. So even if the sea level doesn't change most of today's coastal cities will be virtually rebuilt in 200-300 years and that change will go on and on.

I notice you refuse to answer a simple and serious question that I have put to you twice now.

If you are talking about change in last 100 years.....if that’s your question........I am not sure there has been a significant Climate shift in that time. I believe originally the calculation was that it might take 3,000 years or so for Caps to melt. However, now they say it might take only couple of hundred years at the current pace. So no, there is is nothing IMMEDIATE that is expected, either in our lifetime or next generation’s. The thing is that a problem as big as Climate Shift, you can’t fix it AFTER it begins or can you? You have to take precautions to best of our understanding what is causing the cap melting and take steps to prevent it. I would think NOW would be a good time to get started and not 150 years from now.

That is not what I asked you. The question is how much has sea level risen in the last 100 years?

As for the rest it is bull. We have never been the cause of climate change which has been going back and forth, warm to cold, for millions of years. We have no way to accelerate it or slow it. It would be a waste of money to try.

Yet you are ready to believe the silly claim that sea level will rise 20 ft. in the next 100 years and spend trillions of dollars to try and stop it?

That’s not what the claim is that in next 100 years that could happen. Claim is that IF and WHEN caps melt, they would lead to 20ft rise in sea-level. As I said above, the original estimates have been revised. Earlier the thought process was it could take much longer time, compared to recent thought process of few hundred years. I could see the revision because nobody could have expected India and China to be doing what they are doing even 20 years ago. Also, I don’t think you could simply keep putting greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere and assume ABSOLUTELY NOTHING would happen. Nothing is free. There are always consequences. ACID RAIN was not figment of people’s imagination. After Saddam set fires to Kuwaiti Oil Feilds, it MOST CERTAINLY HAD REAL IMPACT on enviorment.

So I don’t claim to know exactly what will happen when. I believe it would take a long time. However, I also believe it is NOT wrong to want to invest in technologies like NUCLEAR ENERGY which is in my view, cheapest, safest and greenest. I think its foolish to wait for debacle to happen and then say we would do something as it would be too late then. We simply can collect as much data as possible and if it seems that greenhouse emissions are having impact on polar caps, then I see nothing wrong in taking steps to keep it to minimum.

Also, economically I believe Nuclear Energy can really help us. We are paying too high a price to get our energy from fossil fuel, both in terms of dollars and in terms of damaging the enviornment.

Did you really believe that nobody on FR was once as young, uninformed, and silly as you are? Grow up, try informing yourself with some non-fiction instead of Edgar Cayce, and come back to FR when you have something to add besides total nonsense.

He said what he said.

He predicted that much of Japan (and California) would "slide into the sea" and that Atlantis would surface before 1968. Is that what you refer to when you say he predicted this great global warming?

Whatever money he made he gave it to Charity. Never lived a lavish life. Never made himself out to be anything more than he was.

He lived off taking money from people for listening to his crazy "prophecies." Snake-oil salesman didn't necessarily live a lavish life, either.

I didn’t understand his reincarnation theories either, not sure even if he did.

He said he could see the history of a person's soul as it developed through the ages. He charted their "karmic paths," for a fee of course. Not much to understand--but a whole lot not to believe.

You have attacked him in vicious manner, but not given a single reason why.

Attacked him? Sheesh! I called him a con-man as thousands of others have done before me. ("Freak" was a common descripton.) Then you falsely accuse me of not knowing anything nothing about the man. Who is doing the attacking here?

I threw Stephen Hawkings name out there to make the point that not everyone who believes in Climate change is some purple haired moonbat smoking a bong.

He is however the son of a communist and his chosen heroes were of similar political ideology.

Earlier the thought process was it could take much longer time, compared to recent thought process of few hundred years.

Then it doesn't sound like much of a problem.

I could see the revision because nobody could have expected India and China to be doing what they are doing even 20 years ago.

But the entire Global Warming thing was cooked up in the last ten years. Everybody knew that China and India were developing phenomenally ten years ago. Even twenty really, I know I was talking about it with friends then.

Also, I don’t think you could simply keep putting greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere and assume ABSOLUTELY NOTHING would happen.

No it wouldn't be wise to assume that. It also wouldn't be wise to assume it would. That is why I have looked at data about greenhouse gases.

The Role of the Greenhouse Effect

Generally understood, but rarely publicized is the fact that 95% of the greenhouse effect is due solely to natural water vapor. Of the remaining 5%, only 0.2% to 0.3% of the greenhouse effect (depending on whose numbers you use) is due to emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases from human sources. If we are in fact in a global warming crisis, even the most aggressive and costly proposals for limiting industrial carbon dioxide emissions would have an undetectable effect on global climate. However, significant efforts to limit the emission of greenhouse gases in the United States are currently underway.

ACID RAIN was not figment of people’s imagination.

Oh!? What did it actually do? I haven't seen an article about that for twenty years.

After Saddam set fires to Kuwaiti Oil Feilds, it MOST CERTAINLY HAD REAL IMPACT on enviorment.

Then you can link to an article about that REAL damage. ???

The point you make is actually what I said earlier - Climate Changes happen as evident by Greenland. However, most here don’t even bother to acknowledge that.

What you fail to acknowledge is that climate change happens for reasons beyond our control.
