I thought this is was why the SI was so superior to the english system, at least that is what we were told.

Really? Who told you that SI was superior to Imperial because the replicas of the International Prototype Kilogram were exact and invariant?

And are you aware that since 1893, the definition of the avoirdupois pound (at least in the United States) has been in terms of the kilogram?

You were told that SI is superior to Imperial because it is.

My hunch is the universal gravitational constant isn’t.

Do tell. And does your hunch have a hypothesis to explain why all the replicas of Le Grande K have varied by different amounts? And are you aware that masses are measured using gravity-independent means?

The fact that the kilogram is defined as the mass of an artifact is a relic, left over from the 19th century when representing standards with physical objects was the best that could be done. Soon enough, this will become a nonissue when the kilogram is redefined by fixing Planck's constant, just as the meter was redefined by fixing the speed of light in a vacuum.

‘Tis a true fact that many things that come out of Europe are not bad. Including the SI system and Fitna. But everything else... nevermind.

But isn’t the interesting thing that we thought we had sealed these objects in a way that would prevent them from changing mass, and yet they seem to be changing mass, and in different amounts?

This is an interesting anomaly, much like the Pioneer spacecraft being off-course. There must be an explanation, but surely there are scientists who will not rest until they KNOW that explanation.

“You were told that SI is superior to Imperial because it is.”

Is that why aeronautics uses SI? Oh, wait, it doesn’t. SI is just another measurement of lengths and weight chosen as random as anything else. It just uses easy to use factors, not easy to use measurements, mind you, just factors.

"You were told that SI is superior to Imperial because it is."

We have the wreckage of a very costly Mars lander, buried somewhere on the surface of Mars, to prove that idiotic idea to be rubbish.

Up until that crash happened, every vehicle launched had been completely computed in imperial units. at some point during Bush 41's regieme, they began to be converted, after computation, into SI units for purely political reasons. Now the conversion is no longer done, and they leave the engineers to do it the way that has always worked
