At what point does this guys right to defend himself end for the convenience of former government officials?
Just ask Don Siegelman where his associate is...the guy who bribed him. While Don walks freely....the guy who gave the bribe....is still behind bars and fuming that Don gets special treatment. Don doesn’t mention this in interviews or with the public. If I were Rove...I’d smile and say “no problem” in meeting with congress....but you’d like to have the other guy still in jail given a free trip up to DC to ask why congress can’t give him a bond-deal out of jail.
The remarkable part of this story...is that Don’s sentence and case is still legit. No one has tossed the case out...and the state AG can’t really explain how Don qualifies for temporary stay on his sentence. Even if Karl Rove admitted that he approved the CEO giving Don money...Don Siegelman still took the bribe and gave out a state position to the guy who paid the bribe.
Personally....I’d like for Bush to pardon the bribe guy and then have Bush say alot of nice things about Siegelman but he (Bush) could not pardon Don because Don’s currently out on Bond.
Here's a suggestion: Be a man and just say what you mean.
Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman (Democrat) already defended himself and stands convicted of bribery! The conviction is in appeal but Karl Rove was not asked to testify by Siegelman in his court case; Siegelman wants Karl Rove in front of Rep. John Conyers, Democrat of the looney left. Perhaps Karl Rove should testify before congress for the convenience of a Convicted Criminal!
