I plead ignorance. Can one of you military people tell me what the heck I am looking at? I thought a nose cone was filled with electronic gizmos and such. This one looks like it is full of rolled hay.

The radome is made of fiberglass. It houses the forward looking radar dish and some other components.

The radar antenna is a big flat dish. The nose cone is a hollow aerodynamic cover for it.

You can't put any other useful gizmos in there because they'll block the radar signals.

The rolled hay is traumatized fiberglass.

It is hay and its for insulation. Its cheaper than fiberglass and doesn't cause itching when you stuff it into the nose cone.........
