SAN ANGELO, Texas -- More than 400 children taken from a ranch run by a polygamous sect will stay in state custody and be subject to genetic testing, a judge ruled Friday. State District Judge Barbara Walther heard 21 hours of testimony over two days before ruling that the children be kept by the state. Individual hearings will be set for the children over the next several weeks. She ordered that all children and parents be given genetic testing. Child welfare officials have said they've had difficulty determining how the children and parents are related because of evasive or changing answers.

ELDORADO, Texas (AP) - A Texas sheriff says he has been working with a confidential informant for four years to get information about life inside a polygamist compound.
The sheriff declined to say whether the informant was in Texas or other sect compounds in Utah or Arizona. But he says it wasn’t until authorities searched the Texas compound that he learned about the beds allegedly used by men for sex with underage girls they had married. The beds were found on the top floor of the temple.
Despite having the informant for four years, state authorities are defending their decision to leave the sect alone during that time. They say the group still has civil rights that are going to be respected.
But that didn't happen, did it? Instead, children were taken into custody, and will have their DNA tested. Is that a problem?
The women I’ve seen seemed to be coached from birth. But the chosen spoke ladies are not stupid..
But...there is a driving force that keeps this alive.
And they are very intelligent at sidestepping the law.
Maybe the gubermint should storm into your home, sieze your children, relocate them and force DNA tests on them. Is that a problem?
Lots of confusion going on. A caller to local DFW radio today indicated the cell phone call is in evidence, and he stated the call originated from the TX compound. Also stated LE was searching the massive compound area for possible gravesites.
Time will tell as all this plays out. But at this point, polygamy itself is against the law in TX, and certainly sex with a child under 16 is against the law. Since the judge did not yet throw any of this out, I will wait to see further evidence.
Because I do not wish to see another child "torched" in this state to "save" them, does not mean I support or uphold anything ANY of the Mormons do. But that is getting to be the pat answer by far too many on these threads.
Who is hysterical? I do wonder, though, when people make the same point on thread after thread, if they have a reading comprehension problem.
‘FLDS Prophet’s Nephew Testifies and Speaks Out Against Sexual Abuse Inside Compound’
As the nephew of Warren Jeffs, the self-proclaimed prophet of the polygamist compound in El Dorado, Texas, Brent Jeffs says that he knows all too well the misery and heartache of sexual abuse inside the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Brent Jeffs was a victim of rape and molestation at the hands, he says, of his uncle, Warren, who is currently imprisoned. In fact, it was Brent Jeffs who first filed charges of sexual assault against Warren Jeffs.
“The entire cult, as I would put it, is run by complete fear. Everything they do is run by fear. They control the women and the children all by fear,” Brent told ABC’s John Quinones.
As another long day at court is expected today and authorities try to determine what is to become of the 416 children taken from the El Dorado compound, attention has been focused on the abuse of young girls, but Brent says the boys were also in danger.

Whoopsie! That sounds slightly hysterical...........
Go read the Smoking Gun link above.
Not if I’m not doing anything illegal.
If these charges are true, these pedophiles (like Jeff’s) should have their skin boiled off and fed to rodents.
In fact, 55% of girls under 15 who become pregnant are impregnated by men at least 5 years older than they are, according to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the research and public education arm of Planned Parenthood.
Texas had 2 sets of child sexual consent or statutory rape laws until a couple of years ago. One was under the family code, the other under the criminal code. The age for marriage without parental consent was different, still. The law was changed to bring the different codes together. Part of the motivation was to clarify the parental notification, then parental consent, laws for abortion. http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/FA/content/htm/fa.001.00.000002.00.htm
It’s considered a “positive defense” if the boy and girl are over 14 (but less than 18), neither is more than 3 years older than the other, and they are not the same sex.
As I asked upthread, where is the concern and the same enforcement for all the other underage pregnant girls? How do you know they were not victims of incest, rape, etc?
13, 14, 15 and 16 year olds who are pregnant...
Thanks for the info.
It really is. Talk about a movie with nothing but bad guys...
I haven’t been following this story religiously.
I trust you to make sense of it for me. I don’t trust Gubmint, but did they have a good reason to stick their nose into this mess?
Could these women and children leave if they wanted to?
And the sad thing, it’s OK if both are 13 or 14, even if it is rape.
