Yiddish is the crown of all languages for invective. Better than German, better than Gaelic.
The only language that comes close is down-home Southern English. Back in college, some Jewish friends of mine steered me towards Leo Rosten’s “The Joys of Yiddish.” It was great! Not long afterwards, I saw a book in a bookstore that had a title that said something like “How to Curse in Yiddish” (this was some 33 years ago). I bought it, and laughed until my sides hurt! Wonderful invectives to use against against a tormentor or enemy!
Yeah;
What a shlemeil
What a schmuck
What a putz
What a schlepper
What a schmendrick
What a marvin
