Does the age of consent for marriage matter, since most of these marriages are a sham?

It may matter in individual cases. Some of those marriages may be the first for the man, or they may have legally divorced earlier wives.

Since they can’t seem to find any legal records, and the members of the sect aren’t telling, that’s not likely. And the way the Texas law reads, it doesn’t really matter!
