'The Boss' backs Obama for president

Rock superstar Bruce Springsteen on Wednesday endorsed Democratic Senator Barack Obama for US president, saying he stands "head and shoulders above the rest."

In a message posted on his Web site, the musician and songwriter known as the Boss said the Illinois senator has "the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience" to be the next US president.

"Like most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest," he wrote.

Many of Springsteen's rousing rock anthems and haunting ballads celebrate working class Americans. His endorsement in the November presidential election comes as Obama fends off charges he is out of touch with working class voters.

The Obama campaign welcomed the endorsement. The America of Springsteen's songs - with its hardworking people and big dreams - is "a story I know and a vision I share for our future, and that's why I'm so honoured to have his support in this journey," Obama said in a statement.

Look at his face! He definitely has had some work done. The skin is stretched and the eyes probably won’t close. Kinda like a lizard...

Eggsactly.

Can’t wait to see who the Dave Clark 5 endorses, along with Peter Noonan and the Herman’s hermits. Plus Mannfred Mann. or Nick Gilder. But, the all important swing is Rupert Holmes, and the Starland Vocal Band. Sweet. No, really Sweet the band (”Foxy fox, on the run . . .. “).

He was 100% behind Kerry too - maybe he should rethink his capacity to think Opera’s pulled her horns in - she got whapped good with a big drop in listeners

This is one artist that is soooo overrated. I don’t like any of his songs—they suck.

Springsteen was a really good performer about a thousand years ago.

The man sings every song like he’s having an agonizing bowel movement. I think he swallows pine cones whole and emits them pointy end first.

In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected and steppin out over the line
Baby this town rips the bones from your back
Its a death trap, its a suicide rap
We gotta get out while were young
`cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

The man was a great musician in his time.
He has degenerated into a clownish cliche and I am very unhappy about it.

Is that John Kerry playing with fire again?

“Bruce Springsteen has not recorded anything good for at least 15 years if not longer.”

C’mon. You remember “The Rising” don't you? What about his most recent release “Magic”? Both albums were filled with precisely 0 hit songs.

Really, he is traveling the same road that way to many rock musicians go down which is to embarrass yourself as you grow old and irrelevant. Can't write hit songs anymore and you can't sell concert tickets the way you used to.

I have it from an inside source that he had reserved 10 nights for concerts at Giants Stadium in NJ this summer. That dream ended after he put 3 shows on sale and not one of them ever came close to selling out. Furthermore there are huge blocks of tickets for these same 3 shows that have been held back for sale by the promoters.

I am waiting to see who Musical Youth endorses for president before I make my final decision.

I used to be a big fan of Bruce. He grew up about 15 minutes from my house. I know the places he sang about.

About 15 years ago, he started getting more and more outspoken on politics and, with each pronouncement, I grew to like him less and less. It’s not like I expected him to be a rocket scientist or even a Republican, but he presented himself as being a rebel, independent minded, a noncomformist with some gritty patriotic stuff. In the end, he turned out to be a cookie-cutter liberal, a Tim Robbins with a guitar, retailing every lefty trope in the repetoire: cops bad, Republicans bad, conservatives bad, war bad, etc., etc. etc.

Just another sanctimonious jerk. I still listen to some of the music when it comes on the radio, especially the old stuff, but I haven’t bought anything of his in years or gone to a concert and I won’t.

SHUT UP AND SING!!!!

I guess I have to vote for Lil’ O now....Springsteen picks all my political candidates.

I also let Boy George fix my car, and Billy Idol helps with my investment decisions. For spiritual guidance, however, I prefer the wisdom of Devo.

I’m hoping to get Cindy Lauper to do the laundry, but somehow I’m having second thoughts about having Michael Jackson watch the kids....
