The blog has received huge publicity, both nationally and internationally. CNN featured Army of Dude in its “News to Me” segment twice. And the BBC has reported on the blog in one of its radio segments. ................... Hmmmmm? The usual suspects I see.

The same old retread statements we’ve been hearing for a long time. If you don’t want to go to Iraq, don’t join because most everyone in active duty will be there at one point or another.

It is often surprising to some that enlist that they might just be required to perform combat service as a soldier. I suspect a substantial percentage join to get free benefits and training.

Not certain if the Vets For Freedom or the Vets4Victory would agree with him. Too bad these two groups didn’t get as much attention.

Still it’s good to get some first hand reporting from Iraq, not MSM BS.

And you wouldn't die bravely on a French battlefield or on the Rhine. You'd pass away spent, covered in sweat among the dirt and the trash of a forgotten Iraqi street, wondering where all the glory from war went.

I didn't realize that most people who died in battle were freshly showered, shaved and shorn. I just wonder if this guy thought that when he joined the military it would be like you seen in the movies.

I do know a few military men and women who do not necessarily agree with the war, but they still go and fight anyway. They are not asked to agree, they are just asked to do their duty.

I have stopped by the drill hall on a few occasions where my husband works and you can tell all the “free colledge” soldiers from the ones who genuinely joined to make a difference. The “free colledge” soldiers are sitting down not doing a thing. When they do a little work, it usually has to be repeated by someone else.

“I suspect a substantial percentage join to get free benefits and training.”

I think that is an understatement.

I have two cousins that both went to West Point and both were outstanding students, athletes, men, and soldiers. Amazing what a couple of farm kids can accomplish after tossing a few bales of hay.
