The blog has received huge publicity, both nationally and internationally. CNN featured Army of Dude in its News to Me segment twice. And the BBC has reported on the blog in one of its radio segments. ................... Hmmmmm? The usual suspects I see.

The same old retread statements we’ve been hearing for a long time. If you don’t want to go to Iraq, don’t join because most everyone in active duty will be there at one point or another.
It is often surprising to some that enlist that they might just be required to perform combat service as a soldier. I suspect a substantial percentage join to get free benefits and training.
Not certain if the Vets For Freedom or the Vets4Victory would agree with him. Too bad these two groups didn’t get as much attention.

I have stopped by the drill hall on a few occasions where my husband works and you can tell all the “free colledge” soldiers from the ones who genuinely joined to make a difference. The “free colledge” soldiers are sitting down not doing a thing. When they do a little work, it usually has to be repeated by someone else.
“I suspect a substantial percentage join to get free benefits and training.”
I think that is an understatement.
I have two cousins that both went to West Point and both were outstanding students, athletes, men, and soldiers. Amazing what a couple of farm kids can accomplish after tossing a few bales of hay.
