I have something similar myself and I can tell you that the pain can be excrutiating. Oddly enough I notice it most at night when laying on my side when the leg is not exactly parallel to the bed.
He is an amazing competitor. If an athlete cannot turn on their knees to follow through properly they cannot perform at anywhere near championship quality.
“He is expected to miss at least a month while he recovers.”
I hope he had enough in the bank to keep afloat while he’s out of work.
had=has
ah.....nevermind.
I think he hates losing more than he likes winning. His demands for quiet in his backswing is not too much to ask as he chases his goal of winning major professional championships. He's stated when asked if he'd rather win 100 tournaments or 19 majors.... "19 majors". When asked if he'd rather win 18 majors or 100 tournaments... he answered, "19 majors, that's the answer to everyone of those questions"
I don't pretend to know what it is like to be as good at anything as he is at golf, but he has never had a bad word to say about an opponent, has been respectful of Palmer, Trevino, Player and Jack William Nicklaus and of the courses he's played.
I don't see him tumbling drunk like Daly and when Fuzzy made some dumbass remark about fried chicken after he won a Masters he was cool and didn't yank out the race card.
So as far as class, I think he's got it. You might not like him as a person, but as far as a pro athlete, he's handling fame and fortune quite well.
Yep, He was wincing in pain when he climbed out of the bunkers on Sunday. Left leg and knee take all the weight at the end of the swing...had to be excrutiating pain.
And the interesting point is, it wasn't his tee to green game that cost him the win, but his putter. He was still hitting great shots, just couldn't sink a putt to save his life.
Golf worthy ping?
I saw him getting up slow a few times from the putt studying squatting position. I thought it was another of those longevity movements he's been doing for the past three or so years. Apparently not.
I’ve seen Tiger’s temper get to HIM, but he’s never lost it on a fan or the gallery. He often gives photographers and rowdy gallery members a word or two, but mostly it’s just a look. What Steve Williams says to those folks is another matter entirely. Tiger is one of the most grown up and mentally tough players to ever play the game.
OMG, you mean Tiger is *gasp* human? And besides, when has he ever cussed at fans. Yes, he does let out an occasional "GD Bomb" when he messes up a shot, but I've never heard of times when he cussed out other people.
Or just maybe Tiger and Steve need to remind those idiot photographers of their manners on the course. Etiquette extends to the gallery too.
Tiger is a class act. He lives locally to me and on a couple of occasions I've spotted him out at a local restaurant or my gym and he always acts like a regular guy. No airs about him even so he is likely the most famous athlete in the world.
Idiot photographers? Let's agree that the photographers we're talking about aren't the regular gallery folks (who aren't allowed to bring cameras to the course), but indeed, paid sports photographers.
Now let's agree they're there to do a job, just like the golfers and the course workers and other PGA Tour support folks. I, for one, expect news/sports images from a round of a tour event to include action shots. Tiger is the epicenter of professional golf, but he's not the only one having photos of themselves during play. Now, admittedly, other players have also complained about noise during their back swing, but not to the extent that Eldrick complains, you must admit.
The media, both television and print, must be allowed certain access to the players during a competitive round.
I'm telling you, as a golfer of 30+ years, since before I was a teenager, noise on a course happens. Is it my job? No, but there's always ambient noise while you're golfing. In a professional golfer's case, I think it is unrealistic to expect abject silence during a swing with hundreds of people surrounding you.
My point is that the clicking sound of a high performance camera's shutter, located more than a dozen feet away, out in the open, should not be blamed for a 40 yard push.
He won many tournaments on that bad knee. It started hurting him in the middle of last year. And his problem at the Masters was putting, so the knee wasn't a factor.
I would say he probably makes over $200,000 a day just from endorsements, whether he plays or not.
I wonder why he didn't take care of it during the off season.
When he loses *gasp* he become a little more “human” then when he wins.
How come every tee shot is messed up by some photographer or fan clicking (in digital world its hard to believe there are too many clicking sounds out there anyway) when he is losing and he has to turn around and yell. However, when he is winning, is there no one taking pictures? Is their pin-drop silence on the golf course?
Nah, he just is a sore loser and that’s classless.
Yes, most certainly idiot photographers - professional or not. The professional ones KNOW for a certainty that they are not to click a picture in the back swing of a player. Credentialed photographers are ALL given an rules sheet and are briefed by Tour officials about when and where they can snap images of the golfers (not just Tiger).
Now if you’d like to talk about the proportion of photographers that follow Tiger at any given Tournament we can. I don’t know if there are exact numbers floating around, but just from what I’ve seen with my own eyes (on TV and at PGA events) Tiger generally has a lot more photographers and a larger gallery than the average Tour Pro following him.
I like Tiger. I root for and against him, (sometimes you just want to see the underdog win). But I appreciate Tiger’s greatness. He’s doing it in a game where it’s just him. If he performs, he wins and gets paid. If he fails, the pay is less, or none at all. Not like some of those overpaid babies in the team sports.
Tiger has class, but still needs to mature. Tiger’s swearing is troublesome, but I did see on one tee shot that got away, he simply said: “Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!” Maybe being a dad is helping him mature? If Tiger’s swearing is his major flaw, he’s doing ok. Especially in today’s hip hop, gansta world. I think Tiger will fix this flaw in his game. :)
I’m a fan, and glad I get to watch the best there ever was play.
You know why golf is called “golf”?
All the other four letter words were taken.
