It could have happened after Live 8, from what I’ve heard. Roger was all jazzed about it, but Gilmour’s not into it at all.

Shut up and reunite with PF.

Actually, for many years, Roger was all stuck up and "too good" to reunite Pink Floyd, even though the rest of the band wanted to... Then David Gilmour decided to put the band back together without Roger, and they did quite well. But it was dwelling in the past for David, so he decided to concentrate on his solo career, working with his wife. But he also decided that he needed something from the past, and he brought Richard Wright in to work on his solo stuff as well. "On an Island" is the result, and it's quite good, but of course, it still sounds a bit like pink floyd, how could it not.

Anyway, after the Live 8 Reunion, Rodger decided that he'd like to put PF back together, especially for the huge piles of money that were being offered. David said "no thanks!" In an interview I read, he pretty much said that Pink Floyd was his past, and he wasn't interested in reliving it. I think that he also remembers the quote by Roger, "the other blokes, they work for me!"
