There are always efforts to stifle crime statistics in the U.S. that describe the perpetrator’s race or legal status.
Sadly, it's not limited to the USA:

In matters such as this, one must assume that if the numbers that authorities will admit to are 'x', then the actual number will be 'x' times 'y'.
