'World peace' hitcher is murdered

An Italian woman artist who was hitch-hiking to the Middle East dressed as a bride to promote world peace has been found murdered in Turkey.

The naked body of Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo, 33, known as Pippa Bacca, was found in bushes near the northern city of Gebze on Friday.

She had said she wanted to show that she could put her trust in the kindness of local people.

Turkish police say they have detained a man in connection with the killing.

Reports say the man led the police to the body.

Ms di Marineo was hitch-hiking from Milan to Israel and the Palestinian Territories with a fellow artist on their "Brides on Tour" project.

They had separated in Istanbul, planning to reunite in Beirut.

Ms di Marineo was last seen on 31 March in Gebze.

An Italian embassy official told the Associated Press news agency police tracked the man when he put a new SIM card into Ms di Marineo's mobile phone.

Local media identified the suspect only by the initials MK and said he had a previous conviction for theft.

Ms di Marineo's sister, who had gone to Turkey to look for her, identified the body. An autopsy is being conducted in Istanbul.

"Her travels were for an artistic performance and to give a message of peace and of trust, but not everyone deserves trust," another sister, Maria, told the Italian news agency, Ansa.

I don’t know much about art, but I know it when I see it. Looks to me like someone took her pitchers and left some leaves in there.

She wanted attention and fame. Such desires result in many tragedies.

This is why I laugh at the “peace with radical Islam” crowd.

Sure, we can be peaceful up to the point where they kill us.

Obviously what she attempted to do was not well thought out. But some of the comments I see here are out of line. She clearly thought she was doing something for the good and was raped and murdered. The “perfection” of some of the posters here is astounding. I pray for her soul.

Peace is a more than worthy cause and every sensible person wishes for it and not wanting it would be a foolish assertion. Yet, there are evil persons in this world and this women had the misfortune of meeting evil alone and without help.

In war the evil gathers together and allows us defeat it with our righteousness in numbers. That doesn’t mean that we are all righteous, or good because we support these wars against evil. But as a collective, we who support them and those who fight them are righteous and bear more goodwill than bad will.

That is why these anti-war liberals are so foolish. Their non-support of these efforts against a force that is clearly made up of evil doers, only serves the cause of evil itself. There is such a thing as evil and unfortunately, many liberals wear rose coloured glasses and can’t see such things. All they see is the goodness and the light of this world and they are blinded by that light so much so, that it blots out the darkness that surrounds us all.

This women met darkness alone and lost. We as collective can not afford to lose to the darkness.

“I still believe people are basically good at heart.”
No, they aren’t. They weren’t in 1944 and they aren’t now.

Actually, yes, people are generally good at heart. However, as with any generalization about any kind of population, there are differences and variations. She was unlucky enough to run into THAT reality... that her assumption about the truth of a generalization did not apply universally and equally to all. THAT is one of the foundational faults within the body of liberal ideology.

in retrospect you still have to feel very bad for this misguided soul. She set out to prove her point in a bold way but ended up proving herself wrong.

Actually, the division of powers between government branches in the US is based on the Christian belief that men are born bad. Because men are basically bad at heart, you cannot allow power to accumulate in one position.

Civilization is a veneer we acquire if we live in a civilized place.

Trusting the goodness of people only works if you do so in a civilized place, where the majority have acquired the veneer. The Middle East, much of Africa and East LA/St Louis are not civilized places. Don’t hitchhike there...

She probably was a nice person with good intentions. That can be fatal, if there aren’t ‘not so nice people’ with good intentions to protect the naive.

I feel sorry for her and her family. I’m even more sorry no one taught her about life before her death.

As a conxervative, I’m not sure that a selfish nature is such a bad thing, much less sinful. The Catholic doctrine of “Original Sin” is basically a Gnostic heresy, part of the larger Gnostic world view that corporeal existence itself is the corrupt invention of an evil demiurge.

Children are not born evil, they are born with a survival instinct linked to an extremely long maturation period during which the “selfish” survival instinct is programmed to act in a more or less civilized manner, depending on the programming- parental, familial, societal, spiritual, etc.

I see your point:

the division of powers between government branches in the US is based on the Christian belief that men are born bad

But.. I think it is based in the belief that government is basically bad and must be limited. Note the constitution does this, allowing greater freedom to individuals, limiting that of government.

Were we to assume men were basically evil, it would require a strong power to keep chaos at bay.

This I think is more the liberal view of big government - government must be powerful enough to distribute wealth, force "compassion" and so on..

Thank you for your reply.
