Its not the statement that they are bitter that is the problem. Its the suggestion thats why they embrace guns and God. As though those things are bad.This MUST seriously hurt with the very group he has been trying to court. At the same time, he has been strategizing on how to win over pro-lifers. I think this mistake works in many ways -- discounting religious faith, portraying gun owners as bitter, San Francisco style elitism, disdain for the rural, small town poor. Of course, Michael Barone called the last group the modern Jacksonian Democrats as compared to the academic Democrats. Obama hasn't won over the Jacksonians and this will hurt him even more.
