I would suggest that the real problem in government schools is that they no longer function with the best interest of children as their ultimate priority. Public schools see themselves as make-work programs to provide job security and benefits to teachers and other staff.
They are, in fact, practicing the left's "religion" which IS secular humanism. The school administrators ONLY care about the teachers because the teachers are on board.
They are actually quite satisfied that people focus on schools' "failure" in teaching the basics and not on the "success" of their leftist indoctrination. For instance, many schoolchildren today may not know how to read, write and speak proficiently for their grade level, but they do believe that global warming is man-made, that homosexuality is normal and that an abortion is a right.
