Report from down under:

Mrs. EGS described the Great Barrier Reef just as you did.....breathtaking.

The cat took them out to the reef and tied up to a very large pontoon boat. They took a ride in a glass-bottomed boat. She said the sea was pretty rough but at the reef the sea calmed down, which is to be expected.

In a resaturant a duck wandered in and was eating all of the food on the floor. It finally walked up to one woman and stared at her until she gave the duck something to eat. Reminds me of the ducks in this neighborhood. Traffic stops for them while they waddle across the street. The duck in the restaurant is something that I would like to see. :-) Mrs. EGS said it reminded her of our dog when we are eating.

There are sliding glass doors in the hotel room to go out into the patio/balcony. If she opens the door the birds swoop in looking for something to eat. Apparently people have been feeding the birds. If the curtain is open but the doors closed and the birds see her in the room the birds come knocking on the glass. ROFL

Mrs. EGS is loving Australia!

Greetings, Canteners, FReepers, Troops,
and All the Ships at Sea!

Reporting from the Home Detachment’s Bivouac in Surrey, England, it’s the much-delayed report of The European Invasion Vacation!!

We have been on such a hectic schedule with trips and sights and such, that it’s only now, as the trip is beginning to wind down – and we are petering out – that I can get a few of the highlighted pics and narrative to a waiting audience. So, here we pick it up on Tuesday…

Our flight here was a challenge. Our plane got delayed out of Louisville, and we also got held over Newark; we had to land in Allentown to refuel. By the time we got back in the air, our flight to London had already left. The airline bumped us to a later flight, and a few hours later, we were headed for England.

Rather than land at Gatwick as planned, we came in at Heathrow – at the height of the commuter rush. We sat on the tarmac for an hour, then figured there was only one thing to do: Head For The Underground! And so, by using the Tube, the Taxis, and the Trains…

…we eventually got to our hotel in Whyteleafe (“White-Leaf”), and promptly crashed for a while.

After waking, we asked around for a good pub nearby, and heard of several in the next town up the rail line, in Purley. Well, guess what WE found?

A most friendly pub called the Jolly Farmers, who welcomed visiting Yanks with open arms – literally…

As you see, The Boy scored a hug from the Yorkshire barmaid!

After a round of drinks and good conversation with the publicans, we headed back south on the night train, and called it a long but happy day!

Now, I intend to post MORE pics as I get the chances to log in tonight, so stand by for more British fun!
