SAN DIEGO - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says that if an initiative to ban gay marriage qualifies for the November ballot, he's prepared to fight it.

California's governor spoke Friday in San Diego at the convention of the Log Cabin Republicans, the nation's largest gay Republican group.

He has previously vetoed bills that would have legalized gay marriage. A Schwarzenegger spokeswoman did not say what prompted the governor to shift his position.

Schwarzenegger said he was confident a ban would never pass in California and called the effort "a waste of time."

There is a valuable lesson here.

Reminds me of the story of the Indian and the rattlesnake. An indian was walking along a river, preparing to cross and he noticed a ratttlesnake. The snake said, “Sir, will you please carry me across the river” and the Indian said “I will not. For you will bite me, and I will be unable to fight the current and drown”. The snake replied “surely I wouldnt do such a thing, for if I do, I can not swim, and I will drown, too.” The Indian decided this was logical, picked up the rattlesnake, and begin to cross. Just as he got to the place where the current was strongest, the snake struck and bit him. As the Indian grew weak and began to sink beneath the water, he turned to see the snake swimming towards the shore. With his last breath, the Indian cursed the snake and said “You promised you wouldnt bite me!” to which the snake replied “Yes, but you knew what I was when you picked me up”.

Now considering the options of the people of my native state, I wont judge the for electing Arnold. Likewise, come November we may end up with a similar choice nationally. My message to the Huckabee masses who, under the slogan of “he loves Jesus, and so do I...and Me, Mike and Jesus love the fairtax” split the conservative vote and put us in this situation, dont be surprised when the snake bites us. Its what he does.

Where is the shift in position? Banning something that does not legally exist has the same numerical value as a million times zero.
