Mayhill Fowler has more from Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, and they include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won't be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama's seeking:
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
That's pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss.

Are we sure McCain does not agree with him? If a McCain campaign worker criticizes Obama on this, will the worker get fired?
The right to bear arms is part of the Bill of Rights, which, if my knowledge of history is correct, predates the Clinton and Bush administrations.

As far as I am concerned Barack Obama’s image should not be appearing on campaign posters.
His image should be appearing on “Wanted” posters in every post office in the country.
He is, pure and simple, a criminal and treasonist who belongs in prison.

Thos of us in the South are offended. We cling to our guns and religion, too. Hard to find people who hate anyone different from us, but we at least deserved a mention.

Artistotle believed the same thing. In his perfect “State”, good government was a “virtuous” government. A virtuous government consisted of people who cultivated “virtue”, i.e. good moral character. But such moral character takes time to study and develop. Only those who had the leisure time could develop such virtue. The only people with sufficient leisure time were people of property and money.
According to Artistotle, the other people in the State, i.e. farmers, laborers, mechanics, artisans, etc., could not become citizens because they didn’t have the leisure time to develop “virtue”. Why? They were too busy making a living.
Oh yes. He’s already scary. If you know anyone from the Southside of Chicago, ask them... they’ll tell you.
