How did President Lincoln handle that war, Helen, or President Madison? Surely, you were there to see it. Oh, and I don't recall LBJ saying "no" to Westmoreland, but if Miss Thomas says so, it must be the truth. This Lebanese Arab hag isn't fit to dig General Petraeus's slit trench, IMO.

Remember the rules for a Helen Thomas article!

“Think of President Harry Truman and President Lyndon B. Johnson, who both understood that war was too important to be left to the generals in the field. ..”

Typical liberal. Sees things exactly opposite of how they should be.

“The highly politicized Petraeus seemed to be dutifully following his White House marching orders when he testified before congressional committees earlier this week.”

That’s right, you old bag, because the President is the C-in-C. Is she senile?

The Rats can't do anything except criticize. If they get elected and start pulling troops then Iraq suddenly becomes a terrorist safe-haven it will be the Rats holding the bag. President Bush's policy laid the groundwork for success whether the Rats like it or not so it would be in their best interest to try and get elected through victory in Iraq instead of their defeatism today.

This column is a perfect example to show how Helen Thomas is pure, undulterated ‘Rat poo

She is blatantly lying from start to finish about what Petraeus said. There was no call to end all troop withdrawals for the “forseeable future” or until after the Bush admin. Petraeus recommended a 45 day pause this summer after we get back down to 140,000. That is mere basic prudence, a brief period to evaluate and see what the evolving situation looks like.

That’s fine with Bush, who obviously has no intention of ending this futile war on his watch. Apparently feeling no responsibility for starting the war, Bush is planning to pass the Iraqi debacle on to his successor.

No bias here, nope. The media is still highly impartial I see.

Ohio’s GOP Sen. George Voinovich seemed to express the frustration best when he told Petraeus: “The American people have had it up to here.”

LET ME FINISH THIS STATEMENT....“The American people have had it up to here... (with jackasses like me pretending to care about the GOP and my constituents.)”

Oh, where to start here... How about an homage to SNL... "Helen, you ignorant slut!"

The highly politicized Petraeus seemed to be dutifully following his White House marching orders when he testified before congressional committees earlier this week.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this... Helen, a dedicated leftist who puts down a general for actually following the Constitution of the United States. Following the "marching orders" of the civilian Commander in Chief. Of course she would have contempt for this, as we all know how leftists like Helen LOVE military dictators, like Fidel Castro, and Hugo Chavez. Of course, they don't like ALL military dictators. They absolutely hate those who are actually friendly to the USA.

Think of President Harry Truman and President Lyndon B. Johnson, who both understood that war was too important to be left to the generals in the field.

Hey Helen, in case you didn't notice, when those presidents decided that "war was too important to be left to the generals in the field" we've lost those wars, or they're still going on more than 50 years since the start.

Petraeus is too smart to be pinned down on when the U.S. can pull out more troops, especially when there’s been a new flare-up of sectarian violence in Iraq. Let’s say he is careful and self-protective, trying to hold on.

Of course he's just being cagey, playing CYA... I'm sure that it has nothing to do with the fact that THEY'RE FIGHTING A F*****G WAR HERE, AND THE WAY YOU DECIDE THAT THE WAR IS OVER IS WHEN YOU'VE WON OR LOST THE WAR!!!!!! Helen, do you have to work at being this incredibly stupid?

Ohio’s GOP Sen. George Voinovich seemed to express the frustration best when he told Petraeus: “The American people have had it up to here.”

Isn't Voinovich the guy who broke down in tears in the well of the senate while giving a speech over the war? I'm sure that he really struck fear into the hearts of our enemies and instilled respect for the power of the US for those who wish to kill us. Good person to quote, Helen.

Mark

“...mission that has taken more than 4,000 American lives, possibly a million Iraqi lives...”

Keep trumpeting the lies. Eventually, no one will know what the truth is.

What would Helen Thomas know about "bedfellows"?

OMG - She actually thinks LBJ was a good wartime president? I don’t know what to say. It’s like talking to someone who thinks the earth is flat.
