Stanley Kamel, who played Adrian Monks long-suffering psychiatrist on the TV detective show Monk, died Tuesday. He was 65.
Kamel was found dead of a heart attack in his Hollywood Hills home by his agents, publicist Cynthia Snyder said.
Kamel, born on Jan. 1, 1943, in New Brunswick, N.J., had a nearly four-decade acting career, much of it on television.
For several years, he portrayed Dr. Charles Kroger on the USA Network series Monk. As Kroger, he dispensed advice during weekly therapy sessions to Monk (Tony Shalhoub), a brilliant but neurotic private detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

“It’s one thing to work a long time as an actor...for which I am, of course grateful....
To get to play a character as wonderful as Dr. Charles Kroger...
as I’ve said before...
one of the great JOYS of my career. But to have you guys GET IT...to get what I’m trying to do...to get the essence of the whole Kroger-Monk relationship...
makes it all so cool...
can’t tell you fully, how much THAT means to me.”
Stanley Kamel to his fans, 2006.
How sad. I remember him from when we had cable. Attractive man.
One of the few shows the wife and I watch. Light humor and well done. Sorry to hear about his death. Peace be with him.
Very sad...I saw him interviewed on the net a few years back and he seemed to be a very nice, classy, down to earth guy. And a great actor.
You will be missed...but oh my what will Monk do?!!?
RIP Stanley.
monk bump
OH man Monk shrink is dead
I remember that dude
I believe he was the AIDS patient on LA Law back in the day.
Good, sensitive character actor. He will be missed.
Although I recognize him, I never knew his name. What a shame, only 65.
He appeared on every great TV drama ever, including 2 Kojaks and 3 Hill Street Blues.
I agree...
65 - way to young.
He was a fine actor.
It's also one of the few shows I watch. I like it so much I bought 5 seasons.
So far it hasn't been possible for Monk to survive without Dr. Kroger...
This is sad. Monk is one of the best shows on TV — the Alice Cooper Wing Back Chair moment is priceless — and I’ve always liked the actor who played his therapist. Never knew his name, but he was one of those “Hey—IT’S THAT GUY!” actors. Good character actor. RIP.
Yes, he will...
I have been watching Monk every Friday night with my younger (16) son since the show began. Kamel was a great actor not only in Monk, but in about a zillion other shows and movies for the past several decades. RIP He (and his characters) will be missed.
Too young...
My husband and mother like that show; I don’t. Monk is just too weird for me. But I’m always sorry to see people die.
