RCP has Obama in a steady lead in spite of all the recent hype.

Give the media time, after the Democrats have their candidate. The wailing of tears from the McManiacs will float the Titanic.

The GOP simply cannot survive a McCain win anyway if they hope to get the majority back in 2010 or 2012. McCain will set Conservatives back decades in the eyes of the public.

If you think a McCain loss would be preferable, you need a cold shower.

Assuming for the sake of argument that McCain wins the presidency, he will have a democrat Congress to deal with. Given the 'rat-pack's proclivity for overplaying their hand, and not only the low esteem in which Congress is held but their very incompetence, the possibility of a return to the majority for republicans in 2010 or 2012 would be very real. It is useful to bear in mind that the GOP won Congress with a democrat in the White House, and only a weak ex-presidential candidate licking his wounds somewhere. It all depends on the GOP generating someone besides McCain who can supply leadership, as Gingrich did in 1994. That person has yet to be identified, but he's out there somewhere.
