Shocking results from a WNBC/Marist Poll of New York voters out today - John McCain would defeat Barack Obama in a General Election matchup, and he only trails New York Senator Hillary Clinton by 2 points! Here are the numbers:
48% John McCain 46% Barack Obama
48% Hillary Clinton 46% John McCain
There's more! In a total "kick-in-the-teeth" to the Dems notion of Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama being a "dream" ticket, it appears a John McCain/Condi Rice ticket would be even "dreamier," at least in New York! A McCain/Rice Ticket would defeat either an Obama/Clinton or a Clinton/Obama ticket in New York:
49% McCain/Rice 44% Obama/Clinton
49% McCain/Rice 46% Clinton/Obama
Any way you look at it, this is devastating news for the Democrats. The national polls are misleading, because a number of liberal news organizations are keeping Obama's national numbers propped up with polls they issue regularly that use samples which overuse Democrats or poll "registered voters" as opposed to "likely voters." Sometimes they don't even poll registered voters! As a result they can influence the numbers to look more favorable for Obama. Expect his national numbers against McCain to stay strong all the way to November as a result.
But for John McCain to be running that strong in New York is a breathtaking sign that in individual states, the Dems have real trouble. New York is supposed to be an uncontested slam-dunk for any Dem nominee. If McCain stays even close there, it is a sign that the Dems can't win nationally in the Presidential race. We'll see if this holds, but it is a very positive sign for John McCain - with or without Condi Rice on the ticket!
Rice = NO! Nice wet dream for the MSM.
"... and would only end up utterly destroying the country a little bit, as a result!"
Wow!!! They sure do love to use their exclamation points!!! It’s all so exciting!!!
This is their pipe dream as they picked our candidate and now they are trying to pick our VP candidate too. Not gonna happen.
That last part just about says it all.
No Condi.
We sure do like those polls that say what we want to hear!!
Devastating if any of the three mentioned win. Are there degrees of devastation?
The Friends on Fox were jumping on their curvy couch all morning about this poll. Michelle Maulkin was asked about this Dream Team...she said it was not a way to win over conservatives. Next question.
What’s with Rice/Romney VP crap? Mitt couldn’t handle the high school crooks of the Massachusetts legislature, and Rice couldn’t get the Gays to fill staffing in Baghdad (I hope Rice never goes to Walter Reed. How she could look a soldier in the face when she won’t make her own go...)
“Chris Farley”
I liked Rice before she wound up being the Jorge’s point woman in the State Dept. Her cozing up to the Phillistinian killers is unforgivable, even if directed by Jorge.
She might just be carrying out Jorge’s policies in her current position, but that taints her anyway. I find this poll really hard to swollow, considering the large Jewish population in New York.
Fascinating, the only problem is they both are foreign affairs oriented and their resumes are best in that area, Election 2008 is going to be Domestic Issues contest.
The principle holds that in a hierarchy members are promoted so long as they work competently. Sooner or later they are promoted to a position at which they are no longer competent (their “level of incompetence”), and there they remain. Peter's Corollary states that “in time, every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out his duties” and adds that “work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence”.
“Rice = NO!”
I think you meant HELL NO
(1) Voters who vote solely on the basis of sex will vote Clinton. Voters who vote solely on the basis of race will vote Obama. A black woman on the bottom of a GOP ticket will not sway such people from voting for a woman or a black man on the top of a Democrat ticket.
(2) Rice does not have an experience in elected office - she has been a policy wonk her entire career. This will count against her.
(3) Rice does not have any natural constituency, either regional or demographic, that she can add to McCain's base.
(4) She is completely and indelibly associated with the unpopular Bush administration and, unlike McCain, has no realistic possibility of differentiating herself from it. The Demcorats will exploit this masterfully.
(5) As a pro-abort, she will only serve to further alienate the conservative base.
In sum: her only value as a vice presidential nominee would be initial novelty which would soon wear off.
She brings nothing to the table except her intellect - which most voters do not appreciate or care about.
Also..
She couldn’t get passports out of State. Still.
She couldn’t get State pukes to go to Baghdad. Still.
But ah, she plays the piano, and can do situps and do beer cups with ping pong balls for all I know. Great. Nice. Thanks.
Of late, you are descibing my experiences at my bank of 20 years and AMEX.......LOL....
I find this poll very hard to believe. I wonder if there was an error, or if this is even a joke. I can hardly imagine McCain carrying NY under any circumstance.
The aging feminists in NY might still think Hillary is wonderful, but there are fewer of them around every year. As for Obama—the dems are in for a very rude awakening! I live in northern NJ and I have a lot of Jewish friends and relatives. Due to his negative stance on Israel and his ties to anti-Semites like Wright and Farrakan, Obama is anathema (hey, that rhymes!) to many Jewish voters.
While most big-city Jews have been nearly as reliable as blacks for the democrat party, that won’t hold up for Obama. And all of the characteristics that make McCain a poor choice for us conservatives make him an acceptable one for disenfranchised democrats.
