Given that, what would be your impression of anybody importing wheat or chicken products into the US from China (similar to importing ice into Alaska from Arizona or Nevada...)?? My own instinctive feeling is that in theory at least there should be no legal way anybody could do that and do anything other than lose money. The United States is VASTLY more efficient at producing all of the grains at the bottom of the food pyramid than anybody else on the planet, and particularly than anybody still using neolithic farming techniques.
I really don’t like the idea of food imports from China for two reasons:
First, there is a moral component, much like the English exporting food from Ireland even as the Irish are dying from the potato famine.
Second, the ChiComs don’t give a rat’s rear end about food safety. Never have since the commies came to down. The DEG in toothpaste is a classic example of their attitude towards food/drug/product safety. Using their raw food commodities in our foodstuffs is a very, very poor idea, because the amount of checking we’d have to do in order to really insure food safety would pull USDA inspectors off most of the rest of our imports on the west coast.
