Despite his previous pledge to enter into the public financing system should he be the Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has recently been reluctant to re-commit to entering the system.
This reluctance has coincided with his primary, caucus, and fundraising successes. For that reluctance, Obama has been hammered as hypocritical by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., not to mention impartial observers.
Tonight at a fundraiser in Washington, D.C., at the National Museum of Women in the Arts -- at a $2,300-per-person event for 200 people held before a $1,000-per-person reception for 350 people -- Obama previewed his argument to justify this possible future discarding of a principle.
"We have created a parallel public financing system where the American people decide if they want to support a campaign they can get on the Internet and finance it, and they will have as much access and influence over the course and direction of our campaign that has traditionally been reserved for the wealthy and the powerful," Obama said.
Ping!
Something smells about all this “little guy” internet funding.
What’s with the December 13, 1901 posting date?
Too bad Hildabeast can’t attack Obama on this as she is already bought and paid for by Lobbyist. Otherwise she would be making McCain’s points for him....
Perhaps the McCain-Feingold law is only for those who "keep the rules."
I think Mr. McCain has shot himself in the foot with this one. If he breaks his own rule, he'll get canned for it; however, the Dems will continue to acculumate money any way they can regardless of campaign finance laws. Saul Alinsky, anyone?
in 2004 the “little guy” financing MoveOn.org’s camapain ads were foreigners illegally trying to influence our election. AGAIN.
MoveOn got caught and refunded money but they still ran with ads that were donated by foreign agencies.
Eureka. My time machine is a success. Time to invest in Ford motors
Liberals have been touting public financing for decades.
All it would do is benefit incumbents and limit access to the people.
IMO, Government (taxpayers) shouldn’t pay people to run for office.
... unless, of course, those fabled, oft-bruited "moderate Democrats," independents and illegal aliens somehow manage to pick up a genuinely GARGANTUAN amount of fiscal slack on his behalf, between now and then. ;)

Liberals and Their Invisible Homophobia
It’s not just homophobia from conservatives we have to worry about. Liberals can be just as baldly antigay — often without reproach.

Let’s see..... back when Obama was pretending to be a principled reformer, i.e., when he didn’t think he could out-fundraise any Republican nominee, he pledged that he would be part of the public financing system which has been pushed by all the ‘reform’ minded leftists for a long time.
Now that he has found he can raise much more $$ than McCain, suddenly Obama’s “principles” go by the wayside..... and the MSM isn’t freaking out the way they would trash any R. who had broken such a pledge.
So we see that Obama’s “principles” amount to “whatever I can get away with” and “anything I need to do to win”...... well that sounds like a really principled reformer to me.
You've been here since 2001. You can't possibly pretend to be shocked by any of the foregoing. ;)
Oh, I’m neither shocked nor surprised. Certainly not. The nausea never quite goes away for me, but nothing these leftist charlatans do can surprise me anymore.
That should make many people here very happy. After all, we have been told for months that it isn't about 'principles' at all, but about 'electability'...
