Wednesday's Chinese Military Parade in San Francisco

It wasnt long ago that Berkely, CA declared the US Marines invaders and asked them to leave.

Tomorrow the Chinese People''s Liberation Army will parade through San Francisco where the authorities are welcoming them with open arms. I know this is california, but anyone else find this incrediby weird, even by california standards?

You've all seen these guys in the blue and white tracksuits (uniforms?), shades and ear peices. Apparently they are members of the elite "Flame Guards" comprised of counter terrorist troops from the chinese military. Apparently they are jerks too:

Lord Coe blasts 'horrible Chinese thugs' who barged their way through London as IOC considers scrapping the relay

best quote from a runner carrying the torch: Quote:

Miss Huq, one of 80 torchbearers said: "The men in blue perplexed everyone. Nobody seemed to know who they were officially or what their title was. They were very robotic, very full on, and I noticed them having skirmishes with our own police and the Olympic authorities before our leg of the relay, which was confusing.

"They were barking orders at me, like 'Run! Stop!' and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, who are these people?'

"They kept pushing my hand up higher when I was holding the torch, so they were...interesting." "

nice torch relay of harmony

“At least one torchbearer said she clashed with the squad, and others have criticized their heavy-handed tactics.

Yolaine De La Bigne, a French environmental journalist who was a torchbearer in Paris, told The Associated Press she tried to wear a headband with a Tibetan flag, but the Chinese agents ripped it away from her.

“It was seen and then, after four seconds, all the Chinese security pounced on me. There were at least five or six (of them). They started to get angry” and shouted “No! No! No!” in English, she said.

De La Bigne tried to push several agents away as they grabbed her arm. She said two French athletes who are martial arts experts tried to help her and clashed briefly with the security detail.”

The Olympics squad is composed of two groups: 30 members covering the torch route outside China, and 40 handling the relay inside China, according to China News Service.

The people in Sodom by the Bay should be in ecstasy when they experience a taste of real Communist authority.

There was an FR thread not too long ago where the Aussies told the Chinese that in Australia, torch security would be provided by Australia.

Nonetheless, someone at the IOC has a sense of humor. Why were the cities of London, Paris, SF, among others, chosen for the route? Why not other cities where protests are not so common?

Think I’ll sit by the t.v. this afternoon and watch to party.
Crazies in Frisco are going to at least be entertaining.
