Losing wars is always bad. One of the major reasons for Americas current global predominance economically and politically is that America doesnt lose wars very often. It seems likely, however, that the American people are about to be told that they have to decide to lose the Iraq war, that accepting defeat is better than trying to win, and that the consequences of defeat will be less than the costs of continuing to fight. For some, the demand to end this war is a reprise of the great triumph of their generation: forcing the U.S. to lose the Vietnam War and feel good about it. But even some supporters are being seduced by their own weariness of the struggle, and are being tempted to believe the unfounded defeatism combined with the unfounded optimism about the consequences of defeat that hyper-sophisticates have offered during every major conflict. Americans have a right to be weary of this conflict and to desire to bring it to an end. But before we choose the easier and more comfortable wrong over the harder and more distasteful right, we should examine more closely the two core assumptions that underlie the current antiwar arguments: that we must lose this war because we cannot win it at any acceptable cost, and that it will be better to lose than to continue trying to win.

V*e*r*y interesting.
Thanks
Ummm, ever heard of Turkey, bright-boy(?). Hint - NOT the bird!
Oh, and look what I found from a previous post of yours on another thread:
"Im talking about the blue collar, patriotic democrats who often times would like to vote for the republican because of social or natl security issues, but end up voting for the democrat because of that having to feed their family, have a savings and retirement, and try to put their kids through college problem and they kind of need to get paid more than slave wages to do it"
So, the middle-class has to vote Democrat because voting Republican will make them and their family worse off financially?!?!? Oh yeah, you're a real conservative you are.....
Please, enlighten us on how the Democrats and their socialist policies are so much better for the "working class".
I’m not an advocate of socialism so I don’t have any interest in defending it. I’m for people giving back fairly to those that helped them get rich and I’m not for slave wages and no worker’s rights just because it can be gotten away with.
There are democrats out there who are conservative on a lot of social issues and natl security issues but because of the business vs. labor struggle will vote for the Democrat. There should be a balance and when either business or labor gets abusive, it hurts our economy overall. If that makes me a socialist in your book, then I don’t really give a damn.
I’m not a boy and have been to Turkey twice. If that is your answer, it’s pretty lame. Since when is Turkey Iraq? Did the citizens of Turkey come over to Iraq and vote in their elections? Even turkey, is not exactly a bastion of women’s rights. Or does freedom only matter for men?
Here I thought you were a conservative that was just dead wrong about Iraq. But with the statement above, you've now clearly proven that I've been totally, totally wrong.
YOU'RE NOT A CONSERVATIVE AT ALL!!!!!
I’m pro life,
I’m pro second amendment, have a permit to carry concealed, and own guns.
I’m pro national security and WOT.
I’m anti gay rights.
I’m pro border security.
I’m for using our military punitively and overwhelmingly, not for nation building.
These are just for starters as I must go get my kids from school.
I’ll put my positions up against yours or anybodys here any day of the week and defend them proudly.
Oh spare us. We can all see exactly what you are based on your previous comments, believe me.
And furthermore, when I took the “who’s your candidate” questionaire on-line, I had a 100% compatibility rating with Tom Tancredo, who I supported in the Primaries. Next, you’ll be saying Tancredo is not a conservative. He was one that did not go for all the big business abuses going on either. But that must make him a lefty, communist in your book huh? Yep, me and Tancredo......not conservative. But all you McCain supporters (McCain......a proud member of the climate change cult)........he’s the real conservative. Oh, are people like you ever going to get what you deserve over the next 4-8 years. You have to drag me and my family down with you though unfortunately.
I notice you didn’t lay out your conservative positions. I guess you can’t........LOL.
Again, your class warfare rhetoric on other threads have shown what your true positions are, and they're not in line with what is "conservative" at this site.
(Tom Tancredo?!?!?!??! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Your ignorance is out distanced only by your density, both of which is resulting in the death of our troops.
Seemingly you’ve bought into some sort of “outcome based” foreign policy where you are willing to allow the impotent Iraqi government to say 4+4=5, just so they don’t get there feelings hurt by someone standing up and telling the truth.
While Iraq is swimming in oil revenues, we are footing the bill for incomptence and corruption. According to the Bush Admin GAO, 2.9 billion dollars is simply unaccounted for in Iraq. No explanations, no excuses, no comments.
Hundreds of thousands of weapons intended to bolster Iraqi security forces have simply disappearred while every back-water political party in that country has its own militia. I wonder where all those weapons went.
While the US ground forces were devising a strategy to deal with the uprising of the Mahdi Army in Basra that would include and rely upon Iraqis trained by our troops, Maliki ran in with his own plan and screwed the pooch, with a 40% attrition rate for his troops- according to our embassy- not Michael Moore or Air America- Bush appointees on the ground. Perhaps the only person on this earth with less regard for Petraeus, besides Hillary and Pelosi is Maliki, but you support him so you can keep up your “outcome based” approach.
You can make yourself look like a fool by trumpetting Maliki’s greatness and the strenght and independence of the Iraqi gov’t all you want, but you are getting our troops killed and wounded to prop up a gov’t that is going to turn on us as soon as they get the chance.
"Perhaps the only person on this earth with less regard for Petraeus, besides Hillary and Pelosi......"
Oh, so you're a big fan of Hillary and Nancy, huh? Now that explains a lot! You're living in a fantasy world ceated by your own hate. Enjoy the rest of your stay at FR - it might not be too long if you keep expresing so much admiration for Clinton and Pelosi!
Thinking that way, and then posting it with perceived rightousness says a lot about your mindset.
There are democrats out there who are conservative on a lot of social issues and natl security issues but because of the business vs. labor struggle will vote for the Democrat. There should be a balance and when either business or labor gets abusive, it hurts our economy overall. If that makes me a socialist in your book, then I dont really give a damn.
Sounds like there are some democrats out there who are on the verge of leaving the democratic plantation, but their roots are deep, so it will still take a few more dunkings of the head in a cold bucket of water.
Oh, and your other posts are quite entertaining.
Don't stop now.
” This was the pretext we were given for war and it got derailed by the humanitarians”
More false claims by you as you attempt to spread your defeatist mantra. Why do you use the term ‘derailed’ when all of our efforts comply with the objectives within the original legislation for Operation Iraqi Freedom?
” When given the chance, they voted in only Islamic clerics. “
More false claims. The Iraqi List alone picked up 40 seats.
“So, when there is victory in Iraq, there wont be any more terrorist networks all around the world with the means and intent of attacking Americans?”
What was that you were saying about moving the goal posts?
“When Basra went up in flames “
Up in flames? Even the MSM hasn’t been that bold in their spin.
“Maliki went against US suggestions”
Source please.
” The New Iraq is based on Sharia law. “
Name one place on the globe where Sharia Law bans takfir and offers freedom of religion.
I am heartened to see that Jim Robinson is pleased to allow the mentally deranged to post on this forum but I cannot waste another moment of my time with an imbecile.
I am far less a fan of Pelosi and anyone named Clinton then you are of the corrupt and incomptetent Muslim Maliki. I chooe, differentlyrom you, to support Patreaus whose concern is the US.
Maliki and the current Iraq government have shown time and time again that they have no regard for the objectives of the US but you give them your unrestrained allegiance for fear that failing to do so might seem to be support of the left. They are parasites who injure this country with your dimwitted support.
You are an idiot which does not concern me. What does bother me is that your stupidity kills our men and women in uniform You are pathetic and beneath me.
I will waste no more time on an idiot.
“with a 40% attrition rate for his troops- according to our embassy”
I didn’t see this posted on our embassy web-site. Where did you get this from?
“but you are getting our troops killed and wounded to prop up a govt “
We’ve propped up no goverment. The Iraqi government was elected freely and the elections met or exceeded international standards (remember those elections that the defeatists said would fail).
” that is going to turn on us as soon as they get the chance.”
They’ve had plenty of chances. Iran has been urging them to oust coalition forces for years.
Moving the goal posts? So we’re not at war against global terrorism? This has all been about Iraq since were attacked on 9/11?
People like him exploit our military for their own politics. They’re the most unpatriotic people among us. It’s so obvious he doesn’t give a crap about them, just that they protect his sorry ass. No better than the huffington and KOS people in my book.
