Anything human is a “social issue,” including economics and religion. It is a false dichotomy to try separate “social issues’ form economics.
Now about people trying to restrict suffrage: it is perhaps a good idea to have some qualification for voting. I think that it was a mistake to lower the voting age to 18, but it was done by a party which hoped to get more votes that way. Should we be surprised that the same party tried to restrict voting by race in order to get an electoral advantage?
These “libertarians” now seem to thing abortion should be a right. In other words, it was horrible to restrict suffrage, but OK to kill potential voters.
Pro-life people have pointed out that if you are “pro-choice” you are claiming ultimate ownership of another human being. That is like slavery, no? And in fact it is worse, because usually the slaver-owner (if only out of self-interest) did not want his slaves to die.
Slavery, abortion, taxation of more than 15% — they all are very similar. Taxation is just a gradational form of slavery, after all. It is justified only for defense and justice, to keep the country from being enslaved by invaders and criminals.
dittoes, I’m convinced.
All the libertarians I know believe abortion is murder. The only exception is life of the mother.
Murder is a states rights issue and none of the Feds business.
Many Libertarians disagree with him, that’s the thing. Since there is a dissention in the ranks, the Party has declared abortion a non-issue, letting the rank-and-file work it out for themselves.
Not at all, it is right on point. We got that great conservative, Jorge Bush, with exactly the same rational, and if you don't think he has brought us directly into the current situation then you are naive.

At a sales conference at Random House, preceding the publication of Atlas Shrugged, one of the book salesmen asked me whether I could present the essence of my philosophy while standing on one foot. I did as follows:
1. Metaphysics: Objective Reality
2. Epistemology: Reason
3. Ethics: Self-interest
4. Politics: Capitalism
If you want this translated into simple language, it would read: 1. “Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed” or “Wishing won’t make it so.” 2. “You can’t eat your cake and have it, too.” 3. “Man is an end in himself.” 4. “Give me liberty or give me death.”
Libertarian Party on Immigration :
Eliminate all restrictions on immigration
We welcome all refugees to our country. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age, or sexual preference. We therefore call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.

Libertarian Party on Abortion :
Abortion is a womans choice and does not concern the state
Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that libertarians can hold good-faith views on both sides, we believe the government should be kept out of the question. We condemn state-funded abortions. It is particularly harsh to force someone who believes that abortion is murder to pay for anothers abortion. It is the right of the woman, not the state, to decide the desirability of prenatal testing, Caesarean births, fetal surgery, and/or home births.

“GAY” Marriage
Solutions: Culture wars, social friction and prejudice will fade when marriage and other personal relationships are treated as private contracts, solely defined by the individuals involved, and government discrimination is not allowed.
Transitional Action: Repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act and state laws and amendments defining marriage. Oppose any new laws or Constitutional amendments defining terms for personal, private relationships. Repeal any state or federal law assigning special benefits to people based on marital status, family structure, sexual orientation or gender identification. Repeal any state or federal laws denying same-sex partners rights enjoyed by others, such as adoption of children and spousal immigration. End the Defense Department practice of discharging armed forces personnel for sexual orientation. Upgrade all less-than-honorable discharges previously assigned solely for such reasons to honorable status, and delete related information from military personnel files. Repeal all laws discriminating by gender, such as protective labor laws and marriage, divorce, and custody laws which deny the full rights of each individual
I am trying to think of how to respond to what you have said.
I'll give up and just tell you what I think.
I believe abortion is murder.
If you are an adult, I believe drugs and prostitution should be no one's business but your own.
This one is cute. “abstaining totally from foreign quarrels and imperialist adventures, and recognizing the right to unrestricted trade, travel, and immigration.”
IV. Foreign Affairs
The principle of non-intervention should guide relationships between governments. The United States government should return to the historic libertarian tradition of avoiding entangling alliances, abstaining totally from foreign quarrels and imperialist adventures, and recognizing the right to unrestricted trade, travel, and immigration.
Now, conservatives claim states have a right to keep women from having abortions. That claim is the same old racist Jim-Crow states’ rights doctrine.
Clearly this guy DOESN’T understand our Constitution or he wouldnt recognize a so called “right to keep having abortions”!
NOT FIT FOR OFFICE (Just like 99% of Pols, Repubs, Dems, Libertarians, Greens, Whatever)!
Conservativism and Liberalism disagree on what the other person's due is, and how best to give him his due, but they agree that end goal should be a just society.
Libertarianism rejects the Western tradition of classical philosophy, and sets up Freedom as the standard by which the ethos of a society should be judged. For them, the end goal of a society is not justice for all, but freedom for each individual.
The left started the social issues fight that is the simple reason why Conservatives fight against it. You are wrong if you think only economics matters (which is a moral social issue too, IMO-as is the return (or preservation)of free markets)!
I disagree. Even worse than taxation without representation, is the forced conscription of men to fight foreign wars without representation.
The present Libertarian Party Platform, instead of the 2000 platform statement:
The Issue: The tragedies caused by unplanned, unwanted pregnancies are aggravated and sometimes created by government policies of censorship, restriction, regulation and prohibition.
Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on both sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.
The Principle: Individual rights should not be denied nor abridged on the basis of sex, age, dependency, or location. Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for other people’s abortions, nor should any government or individual force a woman to have an abortion. ...
It is the same position.

If you are an adult, I believe drugs and prostitution should be no one's business but your own.So if I get a teenaged girl to use drugs (voluntarily) at whatever age the LP thinks is 'adult' (some go as low as 12) and then teach her to turn tricks, you are OK with that, right?
I believe abortion is murder. The LP disagrees with you.
