The graph is revealing. The dropoff in NYT circulation is due entirely to dropoff in readership in NYC and surrounding area. The circulation outside NYC has actually increased slightly.

The decline may be due to people in NYC switching to competing newspapers, rather than the internet. If people in liberal NYC are getting tired of the biased reporting, the Times is really doomed.
