More than 20 social-conservative leaders purchased a full-page ad in an Arizona paper warning Sen. John McCain against picking Mitt Romney as his running mate, calling the former Massachusetts governor a "deal breaker" and an "utterly unacceptable" choice for social conservatives.
The open letter to Mr. McCain, which focuses on Mr. Romney's record on abortion and gay marriage and calls him "unfit to be a 'heartbeat away' " from the presidency, runs in tomorrow's editions of the Prescott Daily Courier. It's dominated by block type words "No Mitt."
The ad is timed to coincide with a McCain rally tomorrow on the courthouse steps in Prescott, Ariz., where Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona announced his 1964 presidential bid.
"For us the bottom line is this," the ad states. "The unvarnished facts of Mitt Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts make him utterly unacceptable as a Vice Presidential running mate. A very large (and growing) number of social conservative voters who have become aware of that record are likely to abandon a GOP presidential ticket on which Romney's name appears."

But McCain is okay?

I am a social conservative. I would consider voting for Romney. If McCain had to be on the ticket as well, then so be it.
Prescott, Arizona, once the capital of the Territory, was denied the privilege of greaater prominence when it was discerned that the poeople were just too damned dumb to rule anything.
It seems that nothing much has changed.
He may as well run without a running mate. McCain isn’t the type of man who would let a lowly VP interfere with his plans to unite America (and the rest of the world) under the banner of liberalism.
I don’t know about that. What I’d say is it wouldn’t be the smartest. More conservatives embraced Romney than McCain, so it’s hard to see it as a “deal-killer.” But OTOH, Romney was suspect, and McCain is suspect (at best), so the smarter thing would be to pick someone with solid cred among conservatives.
The real problem with Romney is his Mormonism. The media would go absolutely nuts over it. Of course, Obama and Michelle making a racist, Jew-hating, anti-American preacher their spiritual leader for 20 years in just fine according to the MSM. But Romney’s Mormonism? World War III.
Isn’t that the irony? Anyone who would vote for McCain as President shouldn’t have any issues voting for Romney as his running mate.
But, then again, I can’t see myself voting for McCain regardless of his running mate.
I agree. I can at least consider the possibility of voting Romney even if I had to hold my nose. McCain doesn’t get that much from me.
Somebody should tell the geniuses of Prescott that the Republican primaries are over. It’s now time to support the Republican nominee, unless you’re a hillary or barack supporter.
Your time would be better spent investigating and learning about Black Liberation Theology. If some of you put half the time and effort into uncovering the facts about Liberation Theology that you have put into demonizing Mitt Romney, we would be ahead of the game right now.
Barack Obama and Liberation Theology (Black or otherwise) represents a very real threat to this country.
You should realize by now that trying to influence McCain’s decision for VP will only encourage him to do the opposite.
I am a social conservative and I agree with you.
Maybe he can pick Al Goracle to be VP and to push this gllobal warming scam down our throats.
Even now they are still pandering LIES about Mitt.
What a pity.
IF McCain would add Mitt as his VP, then I would consider voting for McCain. As it stands now, no way in hell will I vote for a scoundrel like McCain. I can’t hold my nose any longer and vote for a DEMONCRAT posing as a Republican.
McCain will rightly tell these morons to go take a long walk off a short pier. Has nothing to do with Romney, just they will have no effect whatsoever on his decision.
I don’t think it will matter who he chooses for VP. Republicans will be out numbered in Nov.
