Indiana Demo chair raises threat of challenging GOP crossovers
Associated Press - April 3, 2008 5:04 PM ET

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana's state Democratic chairman says the party will challenge any long-time Republicans who try to use the state's open primary to create "mischief."

Chairman Dan Parker says he's concerned that some Republicans might use the crossover interest in the presidential race between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton as an opportunity to target other Democrats lower on the May 6th ballot.

Talk show host Rush Limbaugh has urged conservatives in open primary states to vote for Clinton. The advice is based on the assumption she would be easier for presumptive GOP nominee John McCain to defeat in the general election than Obama.

Indiana Republican Party spokesman Jay Kenworthy says Parker's comments are much ado about nothing.

Indiana does not require voters to declare their party allegiances.

Like THEY didn’t do the same thing and stick US with McCain!
That is the ONLY way he won! I just refuse to believe that anything other than RAT “mischief” got him where he is now sitting.

Are the dems trying to suppress people from voting?

I hope they try to prosecute Rush or somebody, anybody to get this whole thing thrown back in their face in court. Who you vote for and why is no ones business but their own and not much anyone can do about it.

Well I’ll be a test case. Cause I’ve never voted in a Democrat primary before in 40 yrs.
But first I have to get instructions from ElRushbo/OpChaos as to which Rat to vote for.
May 6th is still a long ways off.
Who knows?

I have to get instructions from ElRushbo/OpChaos as to which Rat to vote for.

RUSH: You people in Indiana, those of you operatives in Indiana, don't panic here. We at Operation Chaos headquarters are ready and prepared for any of these eventualities. By the way, we had a Drive-By Caller (a Drive-By Caller is somebody that calls with a great point, but can't stay on the air to discuss it himself or herself) pointing out that Democrats across the country are spending more time and energy on Operation Chaos voters than they do checking valid driver's licenses! (laughter) What a great point. This is how discombobulated we have them. Now, those of you members of Operation Chaos in Indiana who have registered -- you're a Republican, and you have registered to vote in the Democrat primary on May 6 -- you probably knew it before I announced it today that the Democrat Party is going to be on the prowl looking for you, intimidating you into not showing up and not pulling off your attempted crossover. Now, this is very simple to combat. It's all you have to do on Election Day, as an Operation Chaos operative. When you vote that day, don't bathe! Don't take a shower the night before, and don't take a shower the day of the election. Don't shave.

In other words: no grooming. Go out and get a pair of beat-up jeans, maybe some Birkenstock sandals or whatever. Tell 'em you don't really know what Obama thinks about immigration but you love it when he talks. You just love it. You love "the future." You love "change," and you are sick of Bush. Get some anti-Bush bumper stickers and put 'em on your car. Get a "Bush Lied, People Died" button. Get a "Bush lied, people died" bumper sticker. Some wacko lib website is sure to have this type of merchandise available. If you have an SUV, that's okay. Show up in it. Make sure to get a bumper sticker that says "W is Still the President," and you're mad about that and you've had it with the Republicans any number of ways. Don't wear a wedding ring. There are any number of things that you can do, ladies and gentlemen. All you have to do is fool their template. You know, they're going to be trying to find you. You know who the Democrats and the liberals are; they judge people by the way they look. So if you show up and look like a liberal. You're not even going to arouse suspicion.

But if you show up looking clean-cut, buttoned-down conservative type, that's going to attract attention. Don't smile! You are not happy, unless you start talking about Obama. Other than that, you're not happy. You walk in there with a frown, your head's kind of hung over. Especially because you're a Hillary voter. You don't think she's got a prayer, but you believe in the electoral process and the Democrat process. We will have further advice and tips for those of you in Indiana as Operation Chaos continues and as the date of your primary, May 6th, approaches.

I find it fascinating that the party that rails against profiling illegal aliens is intending to profile citizens when it comes to voting.

Maybe the democrats can borrow a hose and dogs from Selma and spray and bite voters like they did back in the 60s.

I don't think the Rats want to start something like that in my precinct on May 6th. Such behavior breaks both ways as far as I am concerned.

These are the same people who think it’s perfectly okay to go around handing out $20 to people who will go to the polls and vote the right way.

What would happen if you showed up wearing an "Operation Chaos" T-shirt?

Might make for some good video footage...

Absolutely. Who I vote for and why is my business only. And I am free to change my mind as often as I wish for reasons that are my own.

OK, this is totally blowing my mind. I did not know we were an open primary state.

In the past, and I've been voting since 1980, we had mechanical voting machines. And for a primary you were either declared R or D. When you signed in to vote you were given a slip with that declaration that you then gave a poll worker before entering the machine, and they would then flip a switch. I know one time, just to see (not actually vote for a dem), I tried to pull a lever for a dem, and all the dems were locked out.

I mean, I've been voting (R) my whole life, so maybe I didn't notice a change, but has it always been this way (open), because my memory tells me otherwise.

I typically take the Democrat primary ballot anyway because in my part of the state, very few Republicans run opposed in the primary. To have any influence at all, I try to vote for the most Conservative Democrat on the ballot.

Up until now, I have been very skeptical of Operation Chaos. These last couple of weeks have opened my eyes to its possibilities, however.

I am now wondering if a strategic vote for Hillary! might not be in the best interest of the GOP.
