3rd Graders Find Gun in Classroom Cabinet; California Teacher Arrested Thursday, April 03, 2008
SANTA ANA, Calif. An elementary school teacher was arrested after her third-grade students found an unloaded handgun and ammunition in a classroom supply cabinet, officials said Thursday.
Teacher Jayne DeArmond was arrested Wednesday for investigation of possession of a firearm on a school campus and misdemeanor child endangerment after students at Diamond Elementary School found the weapon, said Angela Burrell, a spokeswoman for the Santa Ana Unified School District.

Hey get a divorce lawyer and be happy! No need to be so depressed and sad. Sometimes these things don’t work out! LOL!
Are you for real?
No - I am figment of your imagination!
Do you have anything of merit to say about this piece or not? If your tagline is indicitive of your typical thoughts, my guess would be no.
This is stupid. The same teacher could have had sex with the teacher and only been suspend with pay.
Oops, just noticed, I meant the teacher could have had sex with the child.
I never even caught that, I knew what you meant.
About this subject?
She shouldn’t leave guns around where third graders can find it.
If she broke a law, time to do the time.
If the story gets major play in media (hopefully it won’t), it would hurt cause of Gun Lobby. Her own image, at least in this photograph, doesn’t play very well either. She won’t be getting sympathy from CA Jury or for that matter any jury.
What else do you want to know?
that's what they call them in California teacher education programs
Aside from the fact that mug shots are rarely glamorous, that was perfect. Thank you.
Yep... Guilty. And “special circumstances” for the mole.
Exactly. She wanted to play a role beyond Victim #4 in a potential school shooting.
Was it a pistol or a revolver. Was the magaine loaded. Did it have a trigger guard installed? So many darn questions!!
I left Calif 18 years ago, when my daughter was entering school. I had moved there 10 years previously and had 4 sons in the schools there - where even THEN, there were 6'chain link fences around the schools and two deputy sheriffs on the grounds at all times - and STILL there would be a week or more in the first month of each year that I would keep my sons home due to the riots, the beatings and the killings...
teachers were scared silly.
It was a war zone then - I can't even imagine how it is now, 18 years later...
I would put a knapsack on my back and walk half away across the country for another job before I'd stay in one of those schools
Only two things bother me at this early point: (1)why did a student have such easy access to the weapon?. and (2) this is an Elementary school, not junior or senior high.
If in fact this is a felony, it is a big problem.
I said “I left Calif 18 years ago”
oops - I meant 28 yrs ago - even worse

I am wondering why she didn’t have it in her purse INSIDE a cloth bag where someone wouldn’t be able to identify what it was without picking it up. Keep the ammo in her bra and she’d be in great shape.
It was dumb to keep the ammo with the gun in a place where the kids had access to them.
" I am all for her having it there in the first place."
Me too! When I began to read the story I was thinking that she had it there to protect the class in case of a shooting. Maybe she read about Virginia Tech and others and thought,"Not in my classroom!"
probably a cabinet that was supposed to be locked ???
