33/41 mpg? Shoot, I use to get 47-50 mpg in my Geo Metro back in the mid 90’s.

Yeah, that’s the thing. The Fortwo is a go-cart on wheels and yet really get no better gas mileage than current technology or even previously built cars. WHAT’S THE POINT? Oh, I get it, it gives the environazis a tingling sensation up their leg.

My family has 3 Prius. A ‘01,03,05. All of them have 4 seats and truly average 46 MPG. Better than 48 if you use cruise control. I drive one 250 miles per week 130 each way thru delaware penna and Jersey. Never less than 46mpg.
My 25 and 26 year old children drive theirs with pride and have a lot of walk around money left over from the savings. My wife drives a ML430 and gets 22 on cruise. She hauls horses with it.
These Tick looking pieces of ....t Won’t work with the handicaps of getting less milage than the prius and almost the same price

I got stuck with a Geo Metro for a couple of days as a company rental. It had phone ahead acceleration.

I had an 88+1/2 model year Ford Escort. It was the first model year (a midyear model, hence the 1/2) that had the less boxy look. I bought it new off the lot for $7500. It was a fairly solid, contained-quite-a-bit-of-steel hatchback design. Its simple inline-4-cylinder engine was quite reliable and simple to fix if anything ever did malfunction.

I lived near Green Bay, WI and went to college in Missouri, a 470-mile drive. But since I sometimes got in excess of 47 MPG (!!!) on highway trips, I drove down to school (or back) for under TEN BUCKS worth of gas quite a few times. Nowadays, my 36-mile roundtrip commute costs almost that much!!

Granted... I drive a pickup now, and gas is much more costly (both accounting for much of that expense)... but WHY can't they make & sell a car like that today?
