Clinton campaign adviser points to presumptive GOP nominee's positions on torture, taxes, global warming, tobacco and health care as evidence.
Could John McCain have been the Independent or Democratic senator from Arizona?
Though that sounds awkward, especially in the midst of a presidential race with McCain as the GOPs nominee, but one Washington insider claimed McCain considered abandoning the Republican Party.
According to Sidney Blumenthal, a senior adviser for former President Bill Clinton and current adviser to Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton, at one point McCain was going to leave the Republican Party and caucus with Senate Democrats.
And although he doesnt want to talk to reporters about it now, there was a time and I was privy to some of those who were involved, did conduct negotiations through third parties about whether or not he would leave the Republican Party and become an independent more or less aligned in the Senate with the Democrats, said Blumenthal on April 1. Blumenthal did not say when those negotiations took place.

Although McCain has disappointed some members of the conservative movement, Blumenthal said he did not think this would hurt McCain on Election Day.
(snip)
Blumenthal even supplied advice for McCain.
So I do not think this will hurt him and if I were advising McCain right now, I would say hes slightly overreacting to his conservative base, McCain said. I dont think he needs to do that so much. I think they dont have any choice right now.

Wow? The Clintons now have Sidney on the scene? I guess that Bagala, Davis, and Carville haven’t been spinning that well lately? Slick and Slicker had to bring out the big gun?????
You are pure trouble looking for a place to happen :)
Yep. Trouble comes in double-oughts :o)
Sure you do, Sid. Sure you do.
President obama or clinton... because it is THEM or mcnasty... plain and simple. Facing this delima; I still cannot bring myself to visualize my voting for mccrazy. Every time I think he might be OK, he opens his big liberal mouth and I am back to disdain to the 10th power.
I own THREE businesses and cannot afford another socialist experiment. I do know that osama and hildebeast will assuredly destroy my life's work. I need to find a way to pay bills, taxes, payroll and salaries on “principle”.

This passes the smell test?
LOl, let’s see if I have this right. Blumenthal claims he has “inside knowledge” which he doesn’t disclose, he is a flaming Clinton liberal flak, and McCaine denies he ever considered switching.
So the reason you believe Blumenthal over the liberal is....?
That's obvious. But, a reminder that supporting liberals is generally not well received on this forum seems appropriate.
You obviously do not know who you are conversing with.
I can only assume a partisan. Probably a Republican. Suggesting that a vote for a liberal is somehow acceptable may not the best way to make friends on a conservative forum. Suggesting a vote for a presumptive nominee, months before the selection of the candidate, indicates a partisan with little ideological foundation.
I need to find a way to pay bills, taxes, payroll and salaries on principle.
That one is simple. Over the next several months, work to nominate a conservative as the Republican presidential candidate at the convention in September.
Democrats nominated McCain, in open primaries, in the early going. Republicans can unnominate the angry little man in September.
You are not the keeper of the gate... and I too have friends on this board that go all the way to the top. Take a look at the number of posts that I have made and you will see that I am no novice at this game.
“I can only assume a partisan. Probably a Republican. Suggesting that a vote for a liberal is somehow acceptable may not the best way to make friends on a conservative forum.”
I have many, many friends on this forum... including Jimbo.
“Suggesting a vote for a presumptive nominee, months before the selection of the candidate, indicates a partisan with little ideological foundation.”
To you it does... but your perception skills suck. I am an AMERICAN first... a Conservative second and a Republican last... if at all these days. I owe allegiance to GOD and Country... no one else... and I will match my anti-mccain rants on FR against yours any day!
What do you think you can do to a man that has ALL of the delegates sown up? I hope and pray for a Convention fight... but I will be surprised if it happens.
“Democrats nominated McCain, in open primaries, in the early going. Republicans can unnominate the angry little man in September.”
Not hardly... not with rinos running the show. I have NOT donated to the RNC in two years... but I gave $2300.00 to Fred and I am donating to County and State party's and individual members running for Congress.
Like I said... this ain't my first rodeo.

This was bandied around well before Sidney said anything.
I'm still amazed you would give any credence to anything the left says regarding the Rep Party nominee in this an election year. Let me guess, you will be one of the ones who will be sitting out the election this year to “teach the Party a lesson”...right?
“According to Sidney Blumenthal, a senior adviser for former President Bill Clinton “
right this guy has instant credibility. we all know that he “flirted” with leaving more as a snub to Bush than anything else. however he did come out strong to get Bush reelected and campaigned hard for R candidates all over the place for years. the fact is that he DID NOT leave the party for better or worse and is far better than Hill “i cannot tell the truth” or Barack “whitey must pay” Obama.
whatever - I have already wasted too much time posting to you -
And this is a surprise because?
LOL, “whatever”, indeed. Nice duck and cover answer, or is it cut and run?
Funny how you behave like a liberal would when faced with facts...hmmmmm.
Disaster! That’s putting it mildly. But we all know McAmnesty is not a conservative - nothing new here! If the writer of this article is trying to convince me not to vote for McAmnesty, he’s sadly mistaken - I am NEVER going to vote for him, so this article should be saying how Conservative McCain is so that the Liberals that gave him the GOP nomination will NOT vote for him!
I’ve talk to so many Socialist LIBS that voted for Obama and they say - “I’d be ok voting for McCain if Hillary gets the nomination.” This entire situation makes me sick to my stomach!!!!!
It won’t win him many conservative votes but the rumor might sway some in the middle to vote for McCain. IOW, this “dirt” could backfire.
Yup.
It is always amazing to me what sources people will not only give creedence to but will elevate in stature just because they like the sentiment.
If any Freeper thinks, believes, has an inkling to the possibility that McCain may have indeed thought of going independent (he never would have gone Dem and lost any value to his maverick persona) that is fine. There is plenty of reason to believe of the possibility a few years ago shortly after 2000. But I will not give a thumbs up to laying legitimacy on such an ultimate Clinton insider as Sid Blumenthal just to make my point. This reincarnated "bombshell" is simply a ploy by Billary and Co. to spread as much dissent as possible.
I know, I know... McCain has betrayed the conservative base. But how does giving full creedence to a creedent like Blumenthal elevate the conservative cause?
It doesn't. So bash at McCain all you want (I'm still voting for him) but don't play it like there is no ulterior motive to Blumenthal's comments or that in giving him "cred" it doesn't play right into the hands of the Clinton machine.
My question is how can you possibly believe liberals, who lie as easily as they breathe, over McCain who, despite your postilion on him is not known as a liar.
Look. I’ll end up voting ing for McCain with as much enthusiasm as I have for my morning bowl of oatmeal?
“Denials” are always couched in carefully crafted language; so it’s not necessarily a black/white situation. It was not a bombshell that Sidney dropped. McCain has made his career playing footsie with the Left. Did you not notice?
Of course I have noticed but this isn’t all about the perfect candidate right now. Most thinking people easily see that warts and all McCain is far better for America then either of the other 2 slugs.
My point was that ALL we have about this alleged switch is the word of liberals and personally I don’t buy it.
